January 20, 2026—AUPE pledges support for NASA
To: NASA
On behalf of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, we would like to extend our support to the members of the NAIT Academic Staff Association who have taken a strong and decisive strike vote.
Your strike mandate sends a loud and clear message. Your members are prepared to fight for what they deserve.
AUPE stands in solidarity with the more than 1,000 hardworking instructors, counsellors, librarians, and curriculum instruction specialists ready to take job action for a fair contract.
The government’s attempt to chip away at the strength and integrity of Alberta’s post-secondary institutions cannot be ignored. Academic staff are the core of student learning, and, in turn, the growth and stability of Alberta’s economy.
AUPE members employed by NAIT pledge to support NASA members in the event of strike action. We will refuse to perform work beyond our normally assigned duties, specifically work typically done by locked-out or striking workers as is their right under s.149(1)(f) of the Alberta Labour Relations Code.
Actions speak louder than words. AUPE members support NASA’s fight for a better future.
We are stronger together.

Michael Johnson, AUPE Local 038 Chair
