Was excited to play Persona 5 Royal because the reviews were so good, but I'm 3 hours in and it's somewhat interesting but not as fun as I had hoped 😭
Does the game get better after the first palace? (I just finished going there a second time and unlocked Ryuji's persona)

It definitely gets better. Personally, I view the entirety of the first dungeon in these games as the tutorial, so really you're just getting started.
What everyone has said also; Ryuji sucks! A stereotype for a male buddy buddy situation. The chaos of everyone later is great!
I played P4G and I had a good time with it after the long introduction period.
Persona games are notorious for having really long tutorial phases.
Persona is definitely a lot more slower paced in terms of how much it needs to get going for it to be good. It's why I much prefer SMT because it got more to the point with its story, while having imo better gameplay.
