Appellate public defender after two-decades handling civil appeals. Mother of a planetarian, companion to an exceedingly pretty hound. Typos are my trademark.
- Reposted by Kim Wiederer JansenThis is truly incredible. Shakespeare speaking to RIGHT NOW—on the “mountainish” inhumanity of punishing and casting out strangers from your country.
- Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue

- Reposted by Kim Wiederer JansenSome people are asking what I want Schumer to do. He should be screaming over medical care and access to facilities. He should be going to detention facilities himself and putting his body on the line, as he did at the border in 2019. He should lean into stories about New Yorkers in detention. [1/4]

Between 1/5 and 1/25, the State's Attorney obtained convictions for 179 people it charged with a felony for gun possession
- Reposted by Kim Wiederer JansenWhatever is in the Epstein Files is so explosive that the leaders of the Department of Justice are openly breaking the law every day to keep us from seeing it. (Just a reminder amongst all the other stuff flying around.)
- Reposted by Kim Wiederer JansenFunny how the right is outraged at Fanone flipping off a congressman just days after celebrating a president flipping off a working American .
- Hey #AppellateSky, who has filed a recent cert petition they are especially proud of, or has read one that inspired particular awe? (A colleague is filling her first, and I'd love to be able to provide some especially impressive samples as guidance.)

- Reposted by Kim Wiederer JansenAs we have seen in Illinois, when ICE descends on a city, chaos & violence follow. ICE shot & killed a woman in Minneapolis. There is no justification for their actions. Do not believe their lies claiming otherwise. All involved must face justice & accountability. Anything less is unacceptable.

- Reposted by Kim Wiederer JansenOn the 5th Anniversary of the failed January 6th insurrection attempt, we’re reminded how fragile democracy can be. We must remember the darkness of that day so it’s never repeated. As history is rewritten by some, we choose to speak the truth of what happened.

- Reposted by Kim Wiederer JansenThe USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service
- Reposted by Kim Wiederer JansenIt’s a public service not a business. Losses are not relevant. It’s in the goddamn constitution. Gonna lose my mind. AAAAAAAAAHHHHH
- Reposted by Kim Wiederer JansenMerkel here expresses a sentiment so many Germans had following the fall of the Berlin Wall: that the big ideological fights were done. That we now have to fight again for democracy and our system and freedom is something that we all need to realise.

- Reposted by Kim Wiederer JansenAbsolutely right here. The old foundation is gone. By dropping the ability to show that the federal government does important things and shouldn't be indiscriminately slashed, they just handed all the keys to Trumpists. We're not getting them back

- 1/ Amplifying. A friend of mine recently shared the same sentiment regarding a similar struggle. It bears repeating: ask for help when you need help. Don't let shame hold you back. Shame tells you people will be mortified if they find out you are struggling. Shame is a damn liar.
- /2 This is important. You don't have to wait for the life or death crisis to ask for help. Asking for help with the small things, in fact, may spare you from ever hitting the crisis point.

- Moin! I don't know how many English-speaking Werder fans follow me on Bluesky (admittedly a somewhat unlikely overlap), but if there are any, this pod is pretty entertaining. (And if you aren't yet a fan but were looking for a Bundesliga team to cheer for, you could do a lot worse than Bremen!)
- I've seen this sentiment circulating a few times recently. The thing is, The governor in Illinois does not have authority over the ISP. That authority is vested in the Director of the ISP. The Director can be removed only on grounds specified in the start constitution.
- Hey @govpritzker.illinois.gov, you need to do something about these ISP goons attacking protesters like @katmabu.bsky.social.
- Reposted by Kim Wiederer JansenToday, Trump's trying to make us comfortable with masked agents on the streets. Tomorrow, Trump's looking to leverage this power, take advantage of our elections, and scare voters away. We must call this what it is: a power grab that echoes the rise of authoritarian regimes.
