I know "math is hard" but I don't get why this isn't a no-brainer for politicians. Spend a little upfront to save a lot later.

A million pilot programs show the same thing: when people are given enough money to afford housing, homelessness ends.
Other supports matter, but housing comes first. Not policing. Not moralizing. Homes.
At a time when Liberals are ratcheting the Overton window to woo the hard right, they would want to avoid any program that has the slightest whiff of socialism. That would be chumming the water. Libs would get torn to shreds.
It can't happen because it's good for the poor.
