Andy Miller
Retired from EPA Office of Research and Development, focused on climate change issues. Active with US Global Change Research Program, interested in climate intervention. University of Arizona, North Carolina State University, mechanical engineer
- Reposted by Andy MillerThe problem of ICE/CBP reform is we have a monster rampaging through our democracy and are trying to restrict *which* cities it can pillage and *how many* civilians it can eat. The problem isn’t the restrictions on the monster; the problem is the monster. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/six-ways-t...

- EDF has posted a collection of internal emails and other files from the DOE Climate Working Group, gathered during their recent court case that found the DOE violated the Federal Advisory Committee Act. No major surprises, but a few interesting takeaways. 🧵 [1/10] www.edf.org/media/newly-...
- The fact that the panel did not follow the law regarding advisory committees only scratches the surface of their disregard for policies governing scientific information quality (or lack thereof, in this case).
- They've painted themselves into a corner. They either drop the scientific argument and implicitly agree that the consensus science is right, or they bet on the justices agreeing that they (EPA) can define the science as they please, which seems unlikely, even with the current SCOTUS.

- And this may well undercount those who have left because of Trump. The numbers don't include December 2024 (or 2025). December's a popular fed retirement month, so I expect more left in Dec 2024 via retirement, knowing what was coming.
- The US government lost more than 10,000 STEM PhDs last year, according to an analysis by Science of newly released OPM data, with 11 departures for every hire. And many OPM calls "voluntary" separations were probably pushed. www.science.org/content/arti...

- Reposted by Andy MillerI think if anyone were serious about climate philanthropy they would just buy this building and hire every single NCAR employee and call it a day

- A great explainer from @vermontgmg.bsky.social about the differences between ICE, CBP, and investigators and why they're exactly wrong for good law enforcement.
- If you are appalled at the tactics of ICE and CBP, you should be! They in fact are *NOT* trained for the work they're doing in America's interior right now—and they're scared of interacting with US citizens. That's a recipe for the exact disaster we see: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/ice-101-ho...

- Rep. @seancasten.bsky.social once again shining a light on the reality of how stuff really works.
- Over and over again, these guys demonstrate that the only way they can win is by cheating.
- In 2025, Trump’s EPA team abandoned public health and the environment. In 2026, we turn the tide. Check out the Environmental Protection Network's substack: environmentalprotectionnetwork.substack.com/p/in-2025-tr...
- Important points from @amgcarlton.bsky.social. Brief and to the point. These actions apply to government science agencies as well.

- Reposted by Andy MillerDon't forget folks: allowing yourself a vision of the future you'd want for our country and planet - not the one you'd settle for, not the one you fear, but the future of your dreams - isn't naive, it's a vital cognitive skill. That's how we articulate what we most value. What's worth fighting for.
- I'm sure they can use Grok to write it and have Claude and Gemini provide the reviews.

- Reposted by Andy MillerThis Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...
- Great job by @climate.us to highlight that communicating about climate change requires more than data.
