This orig. cast soundtrack, 2006, featured actress LaChanze singing main character Celie’s parts in a gumbo of soul, gospel & blues from Russell/Willis/Bray.

- #StillDoinCDs Sum 41 from Ajax, Ontario, was a top Canadian entry in the 2000s pop-punk surge. “Underclass Hero” (2007) was their top charting album (CAN 1, USA 7, JPN 2) & went 2X gold. “I won’t be caught living in a dead end job/while praying to my government, guns & god.” Topical, eh?
- #StillDoinCDs The irresistibly melodious “All is Dream” (2001) is the commercial apogee of Mercury Rev, rising to # 4 in Norway & #11 in UK, going gold & yielding 3 indie hit songs in the latter land. It was more of a cult classic in the US & Canada for those liking a psychedelic rock vibe.
