I once read that was the average height for women and chose it as the height for some characters because of it. I think it claimed 5’ 7” for men at the time.
I’m pretty sure the averages have been going up, but I still use those as baselines for what’s below, average, and above average height.
It's also different depending on country and even region. My brother is straight up average but here in MN the average is a bit higher from Scandinavians. Our maternal gma was a little person so he identifies as short
