Education is a public good for all.
When politicians censor classroom teaching in order to narrow the field of topics that students can engage in, they rob them of a stellar world class education.
This is what is happening at Texas A&M & other institutions in the state.
🧵
Families dig deep to pay for the rising cost of college. They expect an education that prepares them to think critically & lead in a changing world. Professors must defend the student learning experience from politicians that wish to limit classroom learning to a narrow ideological viewpoint.
This is text book indoctrination & this is why faculty are speaking out. We must hold politicians & administrators accountable because anything less compromises our students’ access to a high quality education & their ability to think critically & solve big problems in our rapidly changing world.
The value of student degrees is at risk when a state regime relentlessly censors their institutions.
Research dollars will be lost reputation, economic potential diminished.
Many alumni already no longer recognize their alma mater.
The future of all Texans (& Americans) will suffer from censorship of free academic inquiry in higher education. Institutions have an obligation to protect the pursuit of knowledge & higher ed’s contribution to the common good, not to engage in thought policing in service of a political agenda.
