Centre de Regulació Genòmica (CRG)
Hola! We are the CRG, a research institute exploring the frontiers of biology in Barcelona.
- Some of the most transformative companies began as a research insight that refused to stay inside a lab. That is why we created the CRG BioBusiness School, for life-science researchers who want to translate scientific results into tangible value. Apply by 1 March: www.crg.eu/en/event/crg...

- We have opened several exciting new positions across our research and administration. If you’re looking to grow your career and enjoy life by the Mediterranean, apply now: recruitment.crg.eu/content/jobs...
- Investment in biotech saw a 60% boost last year, according to a joint analysis by Expansión and Biocat. Two CRG startups (Orikine and Seqera) are amongst the top twenty leading funding rounds last year. They are testimony of how publicly funded science can turn into real-world innovation.
- We are deeply saddened by the passing of Peer Bork, who was a member of the CRG’s Scientific Advisory Board between Jan 2010 and Dec 2017. He played a key role in helping shape the institute’s scientific strategy. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at @embl.org
- Reposted by Centre de Regulació Genòmica (CRG)What tools do we need to start engineering #aging and #longevity ? A🧵about something we've been cooking up in lab with Jeremy Vicencio at the @crg.eu : technology that lets us reach inside living animals and precisely dial multiple proteins' levels up and down. 1/10
#FEDERrecerca #FonsUEcat
- The registration deadline for our course which integrates laboratory practice with computational training is approaching fast. You have until 15 December to sign up! courses.crg.eu/events/decod...
- Big congrats to Sara Sdelci @sdelcilab.bsky.social for being as one of the 2025 @embo.org Young Investigators (YIPs), joining 28 outstanding early-career scientists recognised for excellence and originality in the life sciences. She is the eighth CRG scientist to join the prestigious programme!
- Human gene maps contain major blind spots that leaves out a vast majority of the world's biological diversity, according to a new study led by the CRG's @rodericguigo.bsky.social with @bsc-cns.bsky.social. The researchers uncovered tens of thousands of new transcripts and entirely new genes.
- Transcription start sites are new mutational hotspots, according to a new study by the CRG's Donate Weghorn in Nature Communications. The mutations can be passed down to future generations and appear shortly after conception, in the first few rounds of cell division.
- Our annual PhD call is closing at the end of this week on 30 November. If you're interested in carrying out world-class scientific research in Barcelona, you still have a few days left to submit your application! www.crg.eu/en/content/t...
- In today's @financialtimes.com: our researcher's efforts to use the diversity of life on Earth to see which parts of every one of the roughly 20,000 human proteins are essential for life and which can tolerate change, with the aim of supporting how doctors diagnose genetic disease.
- Introducing popEVE, an AI model which can support diagnosing diseases "as rare as one". It was created by a team from the CRG and @harvardmed.bsky.social using data from hundreds of thousands of different species and of genetic variation across the human population. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Two studies in @nature.com resequenced data from the landmark 1000 Genomes Project with long-read tech, creating what may be the most complete overview of the human genome to date. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
- The first, co-authored by @bernardo-rodriguez.bsky.social, discovered more than 167,000 structural variants across the 1,019 individuals, doubling the known amount of structural variation in the human pangenome. Most variants were rare, which will help accelerate the diagnosis of rare diseases.
