- How exactly do painkillers work? 🧪 Protoxin-II, a newly researched painkiller from UC Davis, blocks pain by binding to sodium channels to close them. Where as morphine acts on receptors that lower the neuron's excitability, so sodium channels open less often. See it in VR here:

- Dr. Liz Clark uses a particle accelerator to make scans of a tiny bug which wreaks havoc on cash crops like grapevines and olive trees. We worked with Liz to create the Trouble in Sunshine Creek experience - you can learn about plant biology and how the bug spreads bacteria. 🧪 #supportscience 1/3

- Reposted by 10k ScienceOne impact of the NSF freeze: They fund the small nonprofit, EarthScope, that manages seismic and GPS stations used worldwide to detect and warn of earthquakes and navigate autonomous vehicles. EarthScope can maybe make payroll this week. A prolonged freeze could see stations fail.
