- As a Manchester United fan, it has been very, very difficult to critique Pep Guardiola and Manchester City's role in geopolitics without being dismissed as a bad faith actor. It's vital that critiques of that role come from within, which is why it is so frustrating that Pep is saying this only now.
- Pep was deeply aware of these geopolitical realities years ago. It is great that he is saying this, and also: the lever that he is pulling now, given his unique status in the world's more powerful sport, would have shifted far, far more of the crucial discourse if he had pulled it back then.

People are getting grilled on things that they thought were long ago buried, and several will fold under that pressure. The narrative is out of their control.
