- Our LC is working to improve bike parking at major retail stores across Vancouver and we need your help! Do you work at, or know someone who works at, a major retail chain store? If you’re willing to connect us with managers or corporate decision-makers, email vancouver+bpwg@bikehub.ca #bikeyvr
- Our Bike Parking Working Group has been quite active over the past two years. bikehub.ca/get-involved...
- This modification would be excellent to see at Hemlock/W10th in the upcoming changes around Granville St.
- Hey #bikeyvr, the Broadway Subway Project people have asked us to remind you to pay attention to the signs and traffic control people on Quebec St between E10th Ave and E8th Ave. Apparently some people are not obeying the "Cyclists Dismount" signs or the other traffic controls.
- In response, we've asked them to figure out how to prevent frustrated motorists from clogging the 10th Ave Bikeway. It's a gong show for everyone and frustration levels are high. If you're riding east/west, I strongly suggest 14th Ave for the next few months. Sorry about the hill. #bikeyvr
- Heads up #bikeyvr, we're seeing reports of many drivers using the 10th Ave bikeway as a way of rat-running around the Broadway closure between Quebec and Main. Let me know if this is causing a problem, photos will help us raise the concern with the city.
- The CoV is planning to improve the 10th Ave Bikeway between Fir St and Birch St, including changes to traffic flow (1 way streets) and physical protection in places. This is a very welcome change, particularly at Granville St. #bikeyvr Consultations are open here: vancouver.ca/streets-tran...
- Here are the diagrams but click through vancouver.ca/files/cov/10... to get all the details. And be sure to tell the city what you think here: survey.vancouver.ca/s3/10th-Ave-...
- It also foreshadows a lane from the Granville Connector up the Fir St off-ramp connecting to the 10th Ave Bikeway (in 2028, maybe?)
- Heads-up #bikeyvr: There is (or will be shortly) a significant detour on the Arbutus Greenway at 41st Ave until September 2026. The detour is 1.5 km and you will be detoured to Maple St to cross W41st Ave, which requires climbing That Hill. We'll circulate a map shortly.
- Here's a map of the Arbutus Greenway detour #bikeyvr. Remember this will be in place through the summer. More details on the project, including what the intersection will look like afterwards can be found here: vancouver.ca/streets-tran...
- The elevation change on this detour is significant: it's about a 20 m difference from Laburnum St/W37th back down to the greenway (about a 6% grade over 350 m)
- Next week @lucymaloney.bsky.social will be introducing a motion asking the city to study right-turn-on-red restrictions at some intersections in Vancouver. council.vancouver.ca/20251210/doc... #bikeyvr 1/3
- The motions asks staff to look at restrictions at intersections with: 1) Leading pedestrian intervals 2) Bike lanes, MUPs, greenways 3) Fully signalized intersections with high pedestrian/cyclist injury rates 4) The above on Translink's Major Road Network #bikeyvr 2/3
- Implementing these restrictions would significantly improve the safety of many of the intersections that people on bikes have to navigate daily. You can submit feedback on this motion here: vancouver.ca/your-governm... or register to speak to it here: vancouver.ca/your-governm... #bikeyvr 3/3
- #bikeyvr The Columbia Sewer Repair team at MV has advised that the west-bound separated bike lane along the north side of E 1st Ave will be closed next week. Details in the next post. 1/2
- * The north-side sidewalk will be open * The closure is ONLY during "working hours" (8-5?) * The closure will be all week (Dec 1st-5th) * There will be no on-bike detour: people on bikes will be expected to dismount and walk from Quebec St to Pullman Porter (about 1/2 a block) 2/2
- Heads-up, there have been intermittent (and unapproved as it turns out) closures of the CVG east of Rupert St. The city has stepped in and there should now be a better detour in place. Next week will also see some detours. #bikeyvr
- The VULC monthly meeting was at a weird time (7:15pm) at Creekside CC and wow, y'all turned UP! We had a full house and a good crowd on Zoom too. We take December off, but put January 16th into your calendar -- that's when the next one will be (but online only). #bikeyvr
- An utterly fair assessment of cycling infrastructure and services in Vancouver by @copenhagenizers.bsky.social copenhagenizeindex.eu/index.php/pr... They note that Vancouver has slipped down the rankings but highlight some recent improvements, including the Granville Connector. #bikeyvr
- Vision Zero Vancouver (@visionzerovancouver.ca) saying the quiet part out loud. 👏👏 #bikeyvr
- The weather doesn't look super amazing right now for our Sunday ride to Steveston but also not rainy enough to postpone. A final call will be made tomorrow morning, but if you have a ticket and decide not to come, please cancel it.
- The latest forecast is now saying "Mainly cloudy, 20C". Huzzah, the ride will be going ahead as planned.
- I did reassure attendees that if they didn't want to ride with the threat of showers that it wasn't a big deal. So far today, we've had 7 people drop out. But 3 people signed up! So, uh, we were sold out but now there's 4 tickets remaining if you'd like to join us tomorrow!
- The VULC has its GBBW ride to Steveston this weekend. Please note that this is *not* a rain or shine event. If the forecast calls for sustained rain, the event will be postponed. A decision will be made on Saturday morning (Sept 27th). Attendees will be notified by email if it is postponed.
- There's a ride today in support of cycling in Stanley Park, hosted by @tomdigby1.bsky.social and @ptfry.bsky.social . 2pm, meet at the Park Board office at 2099 Beach Ave. SPLoop after speeching. Treat it as a warm-up ride for Bike the Night (starts at 5pm, first ride at 6:30pm) #bikeyvr
- We also wrote a letter recently following up on the city's inaction addressing safety concerns at Clark Dr/10th Ave. wiki.bikehub.ca/images/e/ea/... #bikeyvr cc: @visionzerovancouver.ca
- Here is our official response to the Park Board on the Stanley Park Mobility Study final report (pdf): wiki.bikehub.ca/images/c/c1/... #bikeyvr
- PB Commissioner Tom Digby @tomdigby1.bsky.social will be bringing forward an amendment to the Stanley Park Mobility Study report that we very much support: a partial return of the temporary bike lane! #bikeyvr dailyhive.com/vancouver/st...
- So what can YOU do? First, you can join the Vancouver Green Party on a ride in support of cycling in Stanley Park on Saturday, Sept 13th, 2pm at the Park Board office at 2099 Beach Ave #bikeyvr 1/5
- You can also write to the Park Board about this report, and let them know that you are disappointed that it does not take the safety of people on bikes seriously. vancouver.ca/your-governm... 2/5
- You can write to our elected officials (in particular the Park Board but maybe the City Council) directly. See bikehub.ca/vancouver-ci... 3/5
