  I agree 100% and it saddens me that a majority of artists (and also mostly self-taught designers!) are selling themselves below their worth. Calculation includes not only the hours to finish your work but also the materials you use and your expertise and experience!

    Reminder for artists: don't get blinded by the "big number" for an art project. Remember to do the math. $3,000 for a tarot card desk *sounds* great. But in reality you're only being paid $38.46 per artwork. And if each artwork takes 20 hours to make, you're getting paid $1.92/hr

  Also remember you have to pay your rent, taxes and food. It's important to track your monthly expenses and earnings, feeding it into your calculation to determine how much you have to work to meet your expenses but also finding the balance to not overwork yourself!
