Do you think the Trumpists have been polite up until now? Fuck all, the cruelty of family separation and kids in cages began Trump 1. Sorry, the Godwin rule not longer applies to this American run at fascism; they've been pressing buttons and pushing boundaries from jump. Next up a Kristallnacht.

They’re taking kids from Minnesota and sending them to detention camps. They’re shooting American citizens in the street and locking investigators out of the crime scenes. The world is watching what happens next.
Hundreds of people spelled out the distress signal "SOS" on Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis on Friday, Jan. 30.

Hochul Seeks to Bar N.Y. Police From Helping ICE on Non-Criminal Issues
Our candlelight vigil will be in memory of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and all people who have been victims of ICE violence. We demand an end to the Trump administration's heinous and un-American immigration policies. We stand in solidarity with Minnesota. Make sure to dress warm and bring a candle!

This video clip also demonstrates that Alex Pretti was made very angry by the brutal, lawless violence of the DHS. That makes him just like me, and a large part of America.
Until he was shot 10 times in the back.

Be safe and stay warm, New York.
He added to the sum of human happiness, Mozart did. He keeps on giving, every day. Thank you, Wolfgang Amadeus -- and happy birthday!

The Opposition Is Winning in Minneapolis
The killing of Alex Pretti has forced the White House to retreat.
Donald Trump must fire Kristi Noem immediately.
Or Democrats will initiate impeachment proceedings against her in the House.
We can do this the easy way or the hard way.
The killing of Alex Pretti and the grotesque lying was an overreach by the administration. They've paid a price and had to pull back a bit. But it's when there's some disarray that the democratic opposition needs to intensify the offensive, and turn a marginal tactical success into a major victory.
I’ve never been prouder to be a Minnesotan.

Tim's furious and I'm furious. I think we reassured each other that we're not crazy, that the Trump administration's war on individuals' rights IS infuriating, and the excuses from the enablers and complicity of apologists and donors are also infuriating.

If I have to keep repeating myself, I will.
A National Strike of over 12 million people for at least 3 days will shut this shit down. At some point, Americans, as a collective entity, need to say that's enough.
Senate Dems needn’t come to agreement on everything right now. That’s a path to the lowest common denominator. They simply have to agree to filibuster DHS approps. As to which of a host of anti-brutality and anti-authoritarian proposals to advance, let a thousand flowers bloom.

“The American people don’t want to live in this kind of police state.
Senators should listen. And then do something about it.”

Opinion | ICE is clearly out of control. This week the Senate can actually do something about it.
Alex Pretti's shooting in Minneapolis turned Senate Democrats against ICE and DHS funding at a pivotal moment, with another shutdown looming.

Yes, the GOP controls Congress. That's why it's key to show Congress COULD stop the madness. And it's not just the DHS bill. Congress could repeal the prior multi-year $75b for DHS; set up a special investigative committee (cf. Watergate); amend the Insurrection Act; etc.
Dems should introduce legislation now defunding ICE and CBP operations in Minnesota, so they have to leave the state. One sentence bill. Demand an immediate vote. Maybe refuse to vote for cloture on any funding bills (or other bills) until a vote. Make the GOP Congress break w/ Trump or own it all.
Pretty amazing (live) video by Heather Cox Richardson just now. Look for it on youtube. Will post a link when I find it.

"We have to let right-leaning Democrats vote with Republicans because their districts are too tight."
Maybe you'd get more votes if you stood up against Republicans instead of playing Republican-Lite.

What's happening in Minnesota is one reason the Reconstruction Amendments banned insurrectionists from holding office. Unfortunately, the originalists on the Supreme Court interpreted the plain language of the amendment to mean its opposite.

Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.
I don’t want to hear anything from an elected official unless it’s a plan to defund the DHS and impeach Noem, Bovino, etc. No texts. No emails. No talk about the economy. Step up or step off.

With Rosen, Cortez Masto, and Warner all now No’s on cloture on DHS Approps, the filibuster will get above 40 (I assume they’ll get pretty much every Dem senator). The question then will be what the Dems demand to let it go forward. Get ICE and CBP out of MN is the easiest message. It’s also right.
The DHS funding bill is effectively dead in the Senate.
New:
@cortezmasto.senate.gov is a no on the DHS funding bill.
