- Reposted by Patty ThilleHi. I wrote an essay about AI slop: How it feels like an invasive species for the internet. How its boosters describe building a future that’s devoid of craft. How frictionlessness can be nihilistic & how this stuff seems to leach part of our shared humanity out of the world. I hope you'll read it.
- Reposted by Patty ThilleThat’s the other thing that baffles me about AI and creative writing, actually. The work IS the joy for me. I don’t want to be able to snap my fingers and have a completed “product.” I want to be transformed by the process. I’m an author but I do this because I enjoy the rigor of being a writer.

- Come work with me! We are hiring two tenure-track #Indigenous Scholars in the Depts of Physical Therapy & Respiratory Therapy at the University of Manitoba. You needn't have a therapy background; lots of possibilities in terms of how to contribute: viprecprod.ad.umanitoba.ca/DEFAULT.ASPX...
- The new Indigenous Scholars will be connected to a growing community in other departments and health sciences programs. They can supervise graduate students in more than one program through cross-listing.
- Please help amplify this to help us reach as many Indigenous #academic folks as possible!

They're fighting for their actual lives. No bluster. No exaggeration.

- "Maybe, for all of her rhetorical crusading, she might actually prefer to see these new pipelines stay on the drawing board. Being able to blame Ottawa for the lack of progress is a useful political cudgel, one she deploys at almost every available opportunity" #abpoli
- "It distracts her voters from focusing on her own government’s failures, which range from failing healthcare and education systems and numerous corruption scandals to one of the highest unemployment rates in the country."

- Our world lost one of the great ones today. I'm so thankful for all Jane Goodall brought into our lives. RIP
- Excellent way of visualizing and explaining the choices facing each of us collectively: Will #reconcilation move beyond the symbolic or performative to transformative, impactful change? It's up to we non-Indigenous folks here in #Canada to keep doing the hard work and staying on the path.
- September 30th is National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. As we approach this day, how can we avoid symbolic performances of reconciliation and equip ourselves to work toward transformative change? Check out these resources and more on our website: yellowheadinstitute.org. Linked in bio.

- "This redesign isn’t a final product, but a new frame to give city council many options to improve service across the city, should they choose to turn up the dial." Systems reflect Winnipeg city Council choices & priorities. Level of service problems (incl frequency issues) are easily fixed.
- Thanks to @mmarginet.bsky.social for clarifying some of the misunderstandings of our new transit system and making it clear that "It doesn’t matter what a city says it wants to be, a city’s vision is shown in what it chooses to budget for." t.ly/ixbKX
- #Winnipeg city council needs to stop treating transit as if it is charity. Transit is one of the major responsibilities of any city.
- For example, that our transit master plan is set to roll out over 25 years rather than 5, 8, or 10 years is a choice. It's a good plan, but Winnipeg is already decades behind in building the transit system a city our size needs, and taking 25 years to catch up to *what we need now* is a problem.

- I'm so happy both of these people are running for federal NDP leader. I know Avi's father's impact (and about some of Avi's own) and have really enjoyed Heather MacPherson's voice in Parliament. I love the idea of a meaningful race for leadership #ndp

We need millions of small acts of solidarity. Help one person in your community for nothing in return. Then, do it again. And again. That's the revolution.

He said people say things are complicated when they’re trying to rationalize their own/the behavior of others. He said, it’s not complex at all, it’s actually simple
- Reposted by Patty ThilleTa-Nehasi Coates is doing a lot of things with this essay, but one of the most important is fearlessly using examples of anti-trans hate to describe Charlie Kirk's politics. The contrast between his choices and those of other writers for major legacy outlets is revealing.

- Reposted by Patty ThilleI really tried to be a champion of the new system, I was having so many conversations with people about why this is a good thing. You can't do more with the same budget. But the only thing Winnipeg spends money on are cops and roads.

- I am absolutely thrilled to share that next week, the book Inviting Movements in Physiotherapy: An anthology of critical scholarship will be available to all. I have had the great honor of being the lead editor in this collection, which is 2 years in the making: open.substack.com/pub/critical...
- For those unfamiliar with #CriticalPhysiotherapy, it's an emerging subfield in our field that seeks to unsettle and re-imagine what physiotherapy could be, with the help of the arts, humanities, and some social sciences.
- We are in very dangerous territory here, Canada. If the last six months have taught us nothing, it's that there is big danger in deeper attachment to the US #cdnpoli

- This is repugnant, from #ObbyKhan and the #Manitoba #ProgressiveConservatives Their ideology prefers that people who use drugs die, unless they are immediately ready (and able to immediately access supports, if needed) to cease all use. Cruel stuff.
