The "Dave Gibbons drew an HJ onto Larry Schexnayder's face in this one panel" bit is where the theory tips over into full-blown insanity. A great example of people seeing patterns that aren't really there when they want to believe something enough.
I mean, sure, there's stuff I didn't notice in Watchmen until years after I first read it. (For instance, I didn't know about the symmetrical issue layout until I read about it in Wizard magazine, IIRC), but at a certain point you have to admit there are no more hidden truths to uncover.
