I wish the Professor Challenger stories were more well known, but they are completely shadowed by Sherlock Holmes. I love Holmes, but Challenger and Summerlee bickering through astounding events happening around them is just so much fun.

Agreed... and definitely more weird fun than Rider-Haggard's "Quartermain" tales, stemming basically from the same "Lost World / Civilisation" root.
