- When you point out this long chain of examples, pro-cop types tend to react in a few ways: 1) "Well that's only a few over so many years!" 2) "This shows the system works, there's accountability and they're getting rooted out!" 3) "These are just allegations, not proof!"
- 1) I've worked dozens of jobs, with at least hundreds of people, if not thousands. My workplaces include schools, kids summer camps and government offices. If a single person in any of those workplaces was arrested for things like stalking, sexual assault, or bribery, there would be public outrage.
- 2) In these stories, victims will talk about the tremendous social and mental costs of trying to come forward, let alone actually landing any consequences. The system has already failed when this many people are affected and this much distrust in an institution is sown. That's not working.

View full threadThe police in Canada are a five-alarm fire of right-wing corruption, openly attacking left-wing politicians, trampling over civil rights, attacking journalists and Indigenous activists, lying to the public and doing everything they can to fight change. And we really aren't taking it seriously.

- Guys I'm starting to have doubts about this whole police thing
- Can't wait for Tom Stamatakis to spill his usual diarrhetic nonsense about how cops are under attack or it's actually the First Nations fault or whatever the fuck
- Here's how that troglodyte responded to the earlier story of nationwide RCMP misconduct:
- The BC Transit survey on options to #yyj Airport is up. Most tantalizing is the possibility of service as early as Sept 26, but that comes with issues. Maps below give a glimpse of 3 of 4 options. The last is new service direct from downtown, so no map for that. engage.bctransit.com/victoria-air...
- During the Good Times of Capital Daily, @jameswsthomson.com looked into why getting an airport bus in Victoria is like pulling teeth: the weird situationship of Sidney, the basic geography of the airport to downtown Vic, and the potential ridership. www.capitaldaily.ca/news/victori...
- Lotta prisoners wandering the suburbs and downtown of Minneapolis?
- Did anyone else not even remotely know there was an Olympics on right now
- Dril getting banned then unbanned for posting an Epstein email screenshot is an actual argument about BlueSky still being shit, as opposed to the endless whining about Woke Scolds or lack of engagement.
- This is one of the reasons I only report arts coverage now. On top of having a full-time job I have to prioritize and be aware of conflicts-of-interest, I'm also completely on my own for liability and defamation. If I run into a legal issue, there's no one who's going to help me.
- The Arts are comparatively "safe" inasmuch as the coverage I'm doing is opinion-based, or even promotional. The people I'm talking to WANT to talk to me, so issues are unlikely. But it's a huge bummer. I see the gaps in coverage, but nobody wants to pay for them or be a support mechanism for them.
