I do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors.
Great work everyone.
I read the “SAVE Act” (the GOP’s new voter suppression bill) so you don’t have to. This is my one page summary. Jesus it’s bad. 1/
A question no Democratic Party official has been able to answer: Given that Bannon says they will deploy ICE to voting locations in November (after *filming themselves* killing Renee Good and Alex Pretti), what do you want to accomplish with more body cameras?
🚨BREAKING: Republicans are moving quickly to pass a bill requiring voters to show proof of citizenship both to register and at the polls ahead of the 2026 midterm elections — a move that experts warn could disenfranchise millions of Americans.

GOP fast tracks monster voter suppression bill that could disenfranchise millions by requiring proof of citizenship at polls
In the past few weeks, passing the legislation has been a unifying rally cry for Republicans, a welcome distraction from the party’s cratering public opinion polls.
Happening now in Silicon Valley: marchers have surrounded the Palantir building and are holding a prayer vigil for victims of ICE, while video of ICE and Palantir crimes is projected on the building.

Normal people are out there doing extraordinary things. My mom's health aide emailed me: ICE took 2 of her neighbors; when she told them they weren't welcome, she was met w/a rifle. Now she's driving a neighbor to work hidden in the back of her car & escorting the neighbor's kids to the bus stop.
“If I am killed doing this, throw my body at the White House, martyr the shit out of me & raise hell. Do not be sad. Do not think I would do anything differently. I would do it over & over again — this is too important to sit down & shut up and not do anything.”

Pursued by federal agents, suburban ICE observers remain resolved
After a frightening pursuit by federal agents, suburban ICE observers say fear hasn’t stopped them from protecting their communities.
One thing I took for granted pre-Trump was never knowing the name of a single federal judge. Didn’t even recognize the names of cabinet members.
Don't agree with Cato Inst on much. But:
Very glad they have quantified what has been obvious for years.
The US immigrant population generated more in taxes than they received in benefits from all levels of government every year from 1994 to 2023.
The Cato study provides the first-ever 30-year analysis of the fiscal effects of immigration on government budgets.

This seems like a pretty reasonable baseline.
Philidelphia DA Larry Krasner warns ICE: If an agent commits crimes in Philly, I will charge you. You will be arrested. You will stand trial, and you will be convicted in state or federal court and you will do your time. Donald Trump can't pardon you for a state court conviction.

Secure your own squid first before helping others.

Far-right Americans want you to believe that having nice things is impossible, and that serving billionaires is the only thing you can do.
This is a lie. The rest of the world has solved many problems Republicans pretend are impossible.
If you campaigned for the presidency on a promise to destroy these assholes, you would win a landslide the size of FDR in 1936, when he campaigned on a promise to destroy these assholes.
Yes, Peter decided that the continued existence of our democracies isn't compatible with his desired level of personal freedom.
An absolute enemy of humanity.
an alternative strategy we could consider is allowing people to go to college and retire and just having some immigration
Dr Oz: "If we could get the average American to start working a year earlier, right out of high school, or a year later -- not retire -- or work better during their lifetime because they're healthy, it would generate about $3 trillion to the US economy. That would more than remove the debt."
“More training” has been used as a pseudo punishment for law enforcement officers for years. Providing more training is not holding people accountable for crimes they commit as law enforcement officers

DHS doesn’t even bother trying to lie well. The man whose skull was shattered told the hospital he’d been struck by ICE officers, an ICE officer told hospital staff the guy “got his sh*t rocked,” then when it became clear how badly he was injured, they claimed he deliberately ran into a wall.

Worth stating this clearly: American constitutional law affords due process protections to non-citizens, even those without legal status. Any official who does not respect those rights—whether a political official or law enforcement officer—violates their oath to support the Constitution.
If Lindsey Graham is willing to hold the entire body hostage for his personal payday, and everyone shrugs and accepts this is how things work, someone should be willing to hold the entire body hostage to force a vote on expelling him. Put it in the Congressional record what a working Senate would do

The judge said the Constitution assigns “no role at all to the President” to change federal election administration.

> "system crash” deleted nearly two weeks of surveillance footage from inside the facility
that's not how anything works they're lying and destroying evidence hope that helps
And what is happening inside ICE detention centers? 404 Media also learned that the federal government claimed that the day after it was sued for allegedly abusing detainees at an ICE detention center, a “system crash” deleted nearly two weeks of surveillance footage from inside the facility.

ICE Says Critical Evidence In Abuse Case Was Lost In 'System Crash' a Day After It Was Sued
The government also said "we don't have resources" to retain all footage and that plaintiffs could supply "endless hard drives that we could save things to."
Alex Pretti was a good guy with a gun. Notice how good guys don't unholster readily even when hit. They see guns as last resort. If a mass shooting had occurred, maybe Alex would have saved the day as 2A activists love to claim. But we'll never know because his gun was used as an excuse to kill him.
The gun was removed by agents from his waistband - he was never pointing it at them. He was already disarmed when they fired "defensive shots," killing the man. They then fired several shots at his lifeless body.
The Washington Post published a clear video of federal agents removing Alex Pretti's handgun moments before he was fatally shot. There's nothing in the video to suggest Pretti even reached for his weapon.

This is a decent article that lays out the realities of trying to rein in ICE and DHS more broadly under an admin dedicated to letting them run wild, but framing it around the Democrats ability or not to do so, and practically ignoring the Republicans agency is so completely wild.

Democrats’ Best Hope To Rein In ICE Is Right Now
Even if it’s not by very much.
This entire claim is outright nonsense because in a mass deportation situation, Minnesota is projected to GAIN a Congressional seat, because Florida, Texas, and California all lose one as their population declines proportionately more.
