- I’m most accustomed to seeing Pied-billed Grebes chomping down on crawdads, but of course we all like a bit of variety in our diets. Perhaps this was a special occasion! #birds_matter #birds
- A lady Belted Kingfisher pauses between fishing dives. She may also be reflecting on her romantic life. Dating season is starting and she needs a new mate every year. #birds_matter #birds
- Just a common little bird - common in California but unknown elsewhere. Good morning, Oak Titmouse! #birds_matter #birds
- Breeding season is weeks away, but dating season starts now. This Common Merganser is getting ready. She will have many suitors, but as soon as she lays eggs he will abandon her. I’m not sure why she works so hard to look good for such a cad. #birds_matter #birds
- A Great Blue Heron appears to be scoping out the neighborhood. Undesirables are moving in. Bald Eagles! Time to find a new nesting spot. #birds_matter #birds
- A Lark Sparrow, looking none too happy. Perhaps it just wanted the human with the Big Eye to go away. I get that a lot. #birds_matter #birds
- I usually see White-breasted Nuthatches foraging on tree trunks. This one took the easy way out and searched for fallen goodies on the ground. But it clearly didn’t want me to see it breaking character in this way. #birds_matter #birds
