- #OTD Violetta Thurstan was born in 1879. Thurstan was nurse and writer who worked internationally, during wars and with refugees. For her bravery, she was awarded the Military Medal in 1917. We have several books by, or about, Thurstan, which document her fascinating life. #HistNursing
