- Reposted by Reagan KellyAs it happens, Alex Pretti apparently had a carry permit. THAT DOESN'T MATTER, because he *didn't draw a gun.* Even had he possessed an illegal gun, this would still be murder. His alleged gun is a DHS red herring; it doesn't matter. We do not need to debate it one way or other.

- Reposted by Reagan KellyIt’s notable that the president can go on TV and be a total gutter racist, and somehow this isn’t news in the slightest. Says a lot about the sickness of American society right now.
- I’ve hated the word hallucination for these kinds of errors since I first heard it. It isn’t hallucinating because it doesn’t have a brain, and the errors themselves are less like hallucinations and more like confabulations - plausible-sounding answers made up on the spot to fill in gaps.

- Reposted by Reagan KellyI cannot emphasize enough that the attempts to anthropomorphize an algorithm is a fundamental act of journalistic malpractice and an intentional act to shield the people responsible for this. It's fucking shameful.
- As I was saying earlier - Grok is not a person, and it can never make any kind statement about anything
- Grok doesn’t *say* anything, it produces a string of statistically likely words in response to a prompt. In this case, the prompt came from a user, not the company. This isn’t an official statement, it’s just an LLM writing a post in response to a request. Why are you treating it like it’s real?
- Grok says safeguard lapses led to images of 'minors in minimal clothing' on X reut.rs/498SoUk
- Reposted by Reagan KellyThe media needs to stop writing headlines like “The CDC changes course on vaccines and autism” and “The CDC defends measles response”. NONE of this is coming from legitimate scientists at the CDC. ALL of it is coming from RFK Jr. Every such headline is causing further harm to public health.
- Look, I get it. You want to speed, everyone speeds. The problem is saying “This dangerous thing isn’t really that dangerous” because you don’t want to *feel bad* about it. You’re not a bad person! You’re just in a hurry, and you’re a better than average driver (just like ~80% of people on the road)!
- Every decision we make, even speeding, has a moral valence. Normally it doesn’t matter, but when you have a crash (and you will, everyone does) how you were driving matters, and if you were speeding it means you decided your convenience was more important than the safety of whoever you crashed into

- What in the absolute fuck is wrong with the bsky team? They aren’t serious if they count this as “wishing harm on someone” but changed the rules to let Jesse Singal off the hook. Add in the Rude label debacle and I question if they’re competent to do the job. Burning every bit of goodwill users have

- Reposted by Reagan KellyThe average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person. The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person. People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives. And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

- This is such a load of horseshit. The problem with Platner isn’t what he did or said 20 yrs ago, it’s that he didn’t cover up a literal Nazi symbol until it became a political problem for him. If he’d changed or grown he’dve covered it up long ago and not acted shocked when someone brought it up

- This is exactly right. America has to reckon with the fact that basically every municipality in the country pays ~half its budget to a paramilitary force that operates with impunity and (implicitly or explicitly) threatens violence if anyone tries to reform them. It’s scary, but must be dealt with.

- Reposted by Reagan KellyHi @npr.org! We worked late tonight putting together this handy pocket guide! It doesn't address road design issues, but if we're going to educate road users, we should include drivers. It's the size of a folded business card. Print it, fold it, put it in your wallet!
