Nico Muhly
- Alright, thanks for listening, now I have to get back to work.
- Enjoy opening your presents!
- I love this. It's like...
- "please leave the College by storming the gates of Clare College and laying waste to their ongoing building works in Old Court" #9LC
- I don't know if it's what ur grandma wants, but that final reharmonization is pretty outrageous and great. Also is it me or was Dean 🍒 ready to rock before the last chord finished? #9LC
- alright y'all calm down #9LC
- They're gonna have to get resourceful. I love how the TFL texts my _watch_ being like "have fun being stranded on Boxing day, loser"
- real footage of me waiting to see if somebody does it
- Real footage of me when somebody does it
- This arrangement of "I saw three ships" is both completely masterful, 💯 no notes, but also seems perfectly calibrated to make me go insane this early in the day. It's been in like seventy five keys and there is a glissando into 9 out of 10 downbeats. #9LC
- Not mad at it though; it must be wildly fun to sing and finally something rhythmically kinetic.
- It's so weird to hear Rutter in such keys as E, A, or C, because normally he's featuring some French-ass chaos during Christmastide. #9LC
- ...but the end of this carol is WILD. It's like that weird period of Early Messiaen before it got really freaky. Beautiful stuff. #9LC
- I don't know what's going on but you could teach a course on every final cadence in this whole service* being so perfectly calibr8ed *(provided nothing really fucked up happens in Dormi, Jesu) #9LC
- Also I know it's apostrophising, but I love when a bit of text has a billion exclamation points but then it's the most delicate setting #9LC
- I would set it like:
- Alright, Berlioz...! This seems like one of those pieces that's harder to learn than it sounds. NOT mad at that organ registration — it's giving SHAWM. #9LC
- You know what would be a good art project is to cut up just the sound of people coughing and then remix it and send it to their houses. It can't be that hard to identify the culprits, can it? #9LC
- Did you all remember to wish John Rutter a happy 80th birthday? I sent his ass a vintage swan postcard which was returned because I didn't put enough postage on the envelope :-( #9LC
- Related content:
- The Kapellmeister really enjoyed saying "Shone" and I celebrate this for him. #9LC
- You really cannot make me like this hymn. I like what the organist is doing with his feet with this canon in the last verse but have you EVER seen clunkier text setting? #9LC
- Like sure it's a scale going down? But it sounds like a fingering exercise (at which I would not have excelled)
- Look at those outrageous unisons! #9LC
- That is some SUPREMELY elegant tapering (both from BB and KCC) #9LC
- I'm not tripping: I think it is worth noting that Britten wrote "A Boy was Born" when he was NINETEEN, which is like 7 years older than some of those choristers and several years younger than much of the back row. #9LC
- Now, hear how these tenors are all elegant and expensive-sounding? I'll pay them cash money to grab three choristers and do an impromp2 performance of Reich's PROVERB any day. #9LC
- I do wish they would print, just for myne owne enjoyment, the original text of this: Ther is no rose of swych vertu As is the rose that bar Jhesu. etc. === like: For in this rose conteynyd was Heuen and erthe in lytyl space, Res miranda #9LC
- The great thing about Bruckner's choral music is that you don't have to sit through all that Bruckner to get that NUTT. It's so efficient — all of them (Os Justi, Christus Factus Est 'nem) are gems. #9LC
- Also do you all know the Bruckner Afferentur Regi? It's like six seconds long, there are trombones, and it delivers the exact same drug as one of those symphonies.
- I mean put me on an IV drip of every sequence in Bruckner short-form choral music. #9LC
- I can barely even _listen_ to The Lamb, it's so weird and perfect. 🐑. Also loving this final tempo; did they do it that scrumptiously slow last year? #9LC
- And are we all going to Tavener's KRISHNA next season? Grange Park / Houston Grand? See u there?
- WHOA. Treble solo, that was trippy. I like this carol because it sounds like it's been in their rep since the beginning of time, and it's in dialogue with all the stuff we know — in the absence of Howells this year, it's definitely scratching that itch for me. #9LC
- Is there a word for the specific emotion of being like “sigh… the neighborhood just isn’t the same…terrible…” when a restaurant I literally never once went into closes?
- Alright, I guess I'm meant to be over here now? Or both? Or what's the best way. Now that I'm An (1) Ancient Person, I feel like learning new shit is harder than ever...
- ...👋🏻
