- Reposted by Lucy MillerHave a wee vote, folks! Be assured it's not me, Liz Lochhead and Jackie Kay in competition with each other - god forbid! It's you choosing a line by each of us to be carved on the Parliament Wall. www.scottishpoetrylibrary.org.uk/2025/02/publ...
- Wee update that I've moved on from @hrcscotland.bsky.social to the Criminal Justice Committee. Still working on very important human rights issues, with specific interest in violence against women and girls, policing, mental health, prisons and their reform, and misuse of drugs/drug policy.
- Please get in touch with me through the committee's email address - justice.committee@parliament.scot Huge part of my new job as a senior clerk is to speak to the right stakeholders and collect the right evidence to scrutinise the Scottish Government.
- As I wrap up my time at HRCS, it’s a bittersweet moment, made even more meaningful as it's my 27th birthday. Reflecting on these years, I’m so grateful for the lessons in resilience, collective action, and the power of human rights. Here's 27 truths I’ve learned. www.linkedin.com/pulse/27-thi...
- Really proud of this report - read below to see what HRCS, with the endorsement of 70+ orgs in Scotland is bringing forward to the UN's Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. A huge thanks to all who participated, it is more appreciated than you'll ever know!
- We’re excited to announce that we submitted our joint report to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) ahead of their 77th session! 📢 This is a good step in representing the voices of Scotland's civil society on the global stage. 🌍 www.hrcscotland.org/news/news/hu...
- A week in the Caribbean to start the year 🏝️ After a whole month off, I'm ready to go in to that office and gloat about missing the grimmest week of Scottish weather.
- Reposted by Lucy Miller📢 Join us next Tuesday for our Equality and Human Rights Mainstreaming Strategy Consultation Workshop! The Scot Govt. are consulting on their equality and human rights mainstreaming strategy. Join us to explore the key issues in relation to the consultation document and co-create our response.
- A few days left to sign on to our report to the UN's ESCR committee 👇🏼 ⏰
- Happy Christmas Eve, everyone ❤️ and thank you to anyone who has donated to Sepsis Trust below. Often asked what I would do if not policy, and the answer is floristry. So, here's a Christmas Eve tradition of wreaths for those no longer here. For Ree. ❤️ www.justgiving.com/page/reesalz...
- Reposted by Lucy MillerOur last pod ep of 2024! 😢* On our final episode of the Unofficial Report, myself and Sarah have a very candid chat about the past year in #ScotPol - the good, the bad, and the outright daft. Grab a mulled wine and tune in below 👇
- Are you able to give a little bit extra this month? 🎁 Social Bite running a brilliant initiative below if you have £5 (which is cheaper than a Central Belt drink you'd be having at your Christmas do!) 👇🏼 www.itison.com/Glasgow/deal...
- Reposted by Lucy Miller🚨 Sign our Collaborative Draft Report on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights🚨 We’re excited to share our draft report on the UK’s implementation of economic, social, and cultural rights, which will be submitted to the UN Committee on CESCR in early 2025. 📝
- Reposted by Lucy MillerHuman rights are not just abstract ideals; they are standards for our governments, intended to ensure that every person can live a life of dignity and respect. But - as our Lydia Murphy shows in her blog - they're out of reach for too many people.
- Reposted by Lucy MillerIt’s important that more third sector and campaigning organisations are calling this out. Access does not always equal influence: www.heraldscotland.com/politics/wes...
- Was set the task of France for a Come Dine With Me this week, and in true fashion to myself, tried very very hard x
- Dessert and cheese board for good measure! 🧀
- Reposted by Lucy MillerThe Scottish Human Rights Commission's new report on the Highlands and Islands is hard to read - and impossible to ignore. Too many are facing hunger, homelessness, and barriers to healthcare. Remote communities, but rights that should never be out of reach. 🧵
- Reposted by Lucy MillerToday is #GivingTuesday – one of my first posts on Bluesky, and I’m asking for money for @together-sacr.bsky.social Your support helps create a Scotland where every baby, child & young person grows up with happiness, love & understanding 👉 Donate: bit.ly/Together_SACR Thank you! 💙 #UNCRCScotland
- Hugely inconvenient for the Scottish Government to announce their budget as Spotify Wrapped drops and exposes the sheer amount I tune the world out for.
- ✨ getting into the festive spirit a bit earlier this year (can't hurt)
- I think I must have travelled a good 5000 miles in total this month, so I'm rounding it off by reuniting with my pup Seamus (who has nothing but love, sparkle and adoration in his eyes). ❤️
- Georgie and I are blown away by the amount of money raised in a short time, with a fair few anonymous donations, so a huge thanks if you were one of them!
- X didn't seem like the place for this, but I wanted to share something on a much lovelier site. This is my friend Maria and I in 2014, serving desserts to some of the UK's best writers at Wigtown Book Festival. I started my working life as Ree's sous. In March this year, Ree suddenly passed away.
- She died and left behind devastation for her family and community. Her death was preventable, but stretched rural NHS services played a critical role in the outcome (in my opinion). Ree lived in Galloway for nearly 20 years, building a life full of laughter, love, and generosity.
- She ran the award-winning Fig & Olive Café in Stranraer, and anyone who met her could tell you about her infectious laugh, her warm hugs, and her unwavering kindness. Ree’s death highlights serious systemic issues in healthcare for rural communities.

View full threadIn May 2025, Ree’s daughter Georgina, along with loved ones (including myself), will climb Ben Nevis in her honour to raise money for The UK Sepsis Trust. If you'd like to donate, we'd hugely appreciate it. www.justgiving.com/page/reesalz...
- Joy levels through the roof this morning with some of my best girls ❄️ Offset our hot chocs with a donation to Shelter as well, which I hope you might consider too (if you can), they're doing brilliant work in this weather. 🔗: scotland.shelter.org.uk/donate?reser...

- Post you from a different era (early 2000s - with an outfit I envy now)
- So impressed by The Herald's legal aid series this week, that I've taken to a long form blog on LinkedIn setting out why legal aid should be viewed as a crucial public service, and refuting some of the Minister's comments, as well as the wider Scot Gov problem. www.linkedin.com/pulse/scotti...
- Here's what we've been covering on the final day of our in-depth series on Scotland's legal aid crisis, starting with concerns that young or new solicitors are turning away from the profession heraldscotland.com/news/2472817... @rebeccamccurdy.bsky.social (1/6)
- Huge thanks to Andrew Learmonth, @rebeccamccurdy.bsky.social and @hannahmargbrown.bsky.social for all of their work on this issue. Look forward to seeing more in the future, and more accountability on the Scottish Government to address this.

- Reposted by Lucy MillerConversion practices seek to change or suppress who we are and who we love on the basis that being LGBTQA+ is "wrong", and that it's better to be heterosexual and/or cisgender. They still happen in Scotland, and that has to change. Find out more: equality-network.org/cp
- Reposted by Lucy MillerWe’ve received a response from the First Minister to our letter calling for urgent progress on the delayed. While the commitment to bring forward the Bill in the next parliamentary session is welcome, we’re deeply concerned about the lack of immediate action. 🧵

- Reposted by Lucy MillerIt's day two of @heraldscotland.bsky.social investigation into access to justice. Lawyers in Glasgow tell us there's an "impending disaster" in civil legal aid as 80% consider withdrawing from domestic abuse protective cases because of pay concerns. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2472546...
- Reposted by Lucy MillerThe fight for #EqualPay continues. Today is #EqualPayDay in the UK, the day from which women areworking for free for the rest of the year because of the #GenderPayGap. #CloseTheGap highlights: The Scottish pay gap is now at 8.3%, a rise from 6.4% in 2023. UK pay gap has risen to 11.3%. (1/3)

- Question: how does one semi skim an oat?
- I see people are introducing themselves 👇🏼 SO, I'm Lucy, based across Edinburgh and Galloway, and I lead policy at the Human Rights Consortium Scotland. 1. I love dogs 2. Team HRCS 3. Some of WiPA Scotland's work (current Co-Chair) 4. My choir! We sing soul & gospel professionally nation-wide 🎶
- In my free time, I am also known to try and escape all problems by hurtling myself in the Scottish sea, or walking for hundreds of miles in other countries. ⛵ Hoping this place is successful, and much better than what X became under El*n M*sk.
- Wholly and utterly recommend a winter break in Prague ✨
- Just finished this wonderful book on a blurry eyed morning in Edinburgh Airport ✈️ which marks book 65 of the year ⭐ Excited to use this app to talk more about my true love of books and reading, and stray away from some of the toxic cycles of The Bad PlaceTM 🐦. Any book recs for me?
