I post mostly on Brexit. I try to think carefully before I post.
- This: Starmer can shamble on until 2029 of course, but only while resembling the slow death of the Conservatives under Sunak.
- Why is every scandal existential for Starmer? Because he has actively worked to eradicate his own support base. And that, along with the Mandelson decision, can be laid at McSweeney's door iandunt.substack.com/p/starmers-m...
- How incredibly refreshing when a political just says it how it is:
- The US is trying to harm Europe.
- What began with Epstein, Bannon & their Russian links.. has become Trump govt policy. giftarticle.ft.com/giftarticle/... US government to fund Maga-aligned think-tanks and charities in Europe
- Sure this looks to be correct (Mandelson was appoined because of his bad credentials), but that does not make it wise: - Why indulge persons that conspire against your interests, and - Isn't it far better to appoint a high-integrity person for the Trump swamp? Corrupt persons can be blackmailed.
- “I look at the performative hand-wringing, all the ‘OMG can’t believe Starmer appointed him despite all this!’ and I feel I’m in a parallel universe. Starmer appointed him BECAUSE of, not despite it. To be our interface with a corrupt WH that operates in precisely the same way. Everyone understood.”
- The US is trying to harm Europe.
- If you try to bend to Reform, it is not only a bad electoral strategy:
- Ben is correct. The new Dutch coalition is bog standard - in the Dutch context - which means it tilts a bit right, as most Dutch government coalitions do. It is however a huge improvement over what we had before.
- Le Pen being a criminal is the reason so many autocrats try to put pressure on the French regarding this judicial process. The see Le Pen as a way to harm France and EU.
- Could this be a reason for the ineptitude of the Starmer government? I loosely translate this as that there seem to be people in the Starmer government that are not focused on good goverance.
- How is this even discussed? I suspect EU officials have eyes and ears, and can see what is going on in US. It is a very bad idea to give an emerging autocracy that works agains our interests this kind of access.
- 🚨🚨Given current situation and with the sharply deteriorating situation in #trumpland, I think it is unwise, imprudent and just a very bad idea for the EU to go ahead with plans to grant #US border authorities unprecedented access to Europeans’ data. 🧵 www.politico.eu/article/eu-m...
