- Texas State has emerged as a favorite to join the Pac-12, sources tell Pete Thamel and me. The expected move would have a ripple effect through college sports. Story: www.espn.com/college-foot...
- Remember when it was cool to say Ryan Day should be fired to score fake internet points?
- Would be kinda cool if the FCS title game was the day before the FBS one in the same market.
- Trophy celebrations for quarterfinal games must go.
- I have, with my own eyes, seen a comeback from down 34 points at the Rose Bowl.
- (But Kevin Sumlin is not coaching Ohio State today, so)
- it was a wild day
- Is there where we come to discuss if Oregon was deserving of the playoff berth it was given by the committee? Or do I have to go to the bad place?
- I'm old enough to remember when Penn State and Ohio State fans wanted to run their coaches out of town this season.
- Best pic every year
- This would have been a conference game if Larry Scott had his way.
- Kenny might be the first coach from the EA Sports coaching tree.
- This is the highest praise
- “After review, we have determined the ball went through the goal posts came back around and then hit the post. The field goal is good”
- The refs should still not be let off the hook
- Doink!
- Pool reporter: activated
- Reposted by Kyle BonaguraTargeting is when you go to Target for one thing and end up spending $200.
- Guy is laid out on the turf, maybe concussed, from a helmet to helmet hit as a defenseless receiver and it’s not targeting.
- It’s textbook targeting. Big moment for conspiracy theorists upcoming!
- lol of course they blew it
- Ewers is playing like someone who is destined to continue his football career as a grad assistant at Texas Tech when he’s out of eligiblity.
- Oh, weird. Sark getting out-coached against a Pac-12 school. *never* seen this before.
- Thanks to all the brands for their heartfelt emails wishing me a happy new year. A good reminder to start the year right and do an unsubscribe binge.
- Hook-and-ladder feels inevitable soon.
- Shedeur in the game down 29 against BYU backups? Sure, why not
- Washington State is finalizing a deal to name South Dakota State’s Jimmy Rogers as its new head coach, sources tell ESPN.
- The deal is expected to be announced today.
- Two days before the season started, BYU DC Jay Hill wasn’t feeling well - and didn’t realize how serious it was. “Right in the barber chair, I'm having a heart attack." His right coronary artery was 100% blocked. He needed emergency surgery. Story on his season of recovery.
- Bowl games are always going to draw viewers because ... football, holidays, etc. But the postseason needs a complete overhaul. Bowls exist because they always have but there is a reason no other significant sport in the world wraps up their season with exhibition games dressed up as real games.
- The 4-team playoff diminished the games' worth. Opt outs have been a growing issue. With the expanded playoff and the transfer portal, these bowls are not representations of these teams this year and that really distorts what to make of them.
- Hard to believe it has been five years. This dude left an incredible legacy of how to treat people. Not a week goes by where I’m not reminded by something in daily life of a memory we shared together.
- This is the energy we’re looking for around these parts.
- How long is it going to take before everyone realizes FCS has the best playoff system?
- Also, fwiw, the 12-team format is the best system FBS has ever had by a wide margin and blowouts in these games doesn’t change that.
- For like a century they just let a bunch of sports writers vote on the champion with limited TV opportunities to watch. Then they let computers pick two. Then they added an extra game but let a bunch of retirees and ADs decide the 4 teams that got to play. Insane, in hindsight
- I still want my Group of 5 playoff.
- After-the-fact debates about the worthiness of the No. 11 seed is going to be an annual thing. It’s a feature of the format. A boring feature. Again: no one who gets left out deserves sympathy.
- It’s always interesting to see what sports stations air opposite major events. Tonight on CBS Sports Net: National plumbing championships followed by national electrician championships.
