Carter's Dad
Old hippie, bewildered socialist, math, old music, grows apples. A harmless drudge.
- I think these guys both watch too much Fox News or something. There is something profoundly backwards about their whole approach to negotiating with weasels. Letting the weasels choose the words they can use.
- Every once in a while I decide to delete a post, and I have finally convinced myself by experiment that no I'm not crazy, half the time I go to my bsky profile to click the little three dots in the lower right corner of the post, the little three dots are not there. Refresh and they're there. Why?
- I really wonder what it's gonna take to get the back-bench Ds to rise up and slap some sense into Schumer and Jeffries and the rest of the Leadership Club.
- I'm generally very much in favor of facts and truth, but we also need a folk hero now and then and Mamdani seems better qualified than most to carry it off.
- Reposted by Carter's DadI am so traumatically trained by social fucking media that I just had to shake off the notion that Bugs Bunny had died because he's in the trending sidebar
- Interesting idea, I hadn't heard this suggestion before. If this is offered as part of a compromise deal on ICE I might allow it. With similar conditions on other forms of violence. I know there's problems with it, but a bargaining chip. Here's our compromise. (I know abolition is a compromise.)
- This nebbish should go to jail as part of the clean-up. There must be some kind of conspiracy or racketeering charge that covers this kind of coordinated direct frontal assault on the Constitution and the rule of law.
- Reposted by Carter's DadMAGA Man tries to beat up high school kids. Emphasis on *tries*. :)
- Useful vocabulary lesson: it's not moderation, it's appeasement. Also a quick shout-out to FDR. I would like to see more people talking about FDR.
- “We have been asked to call the centrist response to this presidency “moderation.” Recent events make it clear we should recognize it as appeasement.” Excellent piece by @rauchway.bsky.social about the importance of building an enduring coalition capable of recovery and reform.

- Just thinking about the aides and janitors and reporters who work in the White House who will have to pretend that this never happened and reassure him that nobody noticed. I really didn't need to know about this.
- Reposted by Carter's DadFrom lawmakers to high school students, people doing the next right thing.
- I am OK with this scam.
- Reposted by Carter's DadThe elders and ancestors were onto something because We Shall Not Be Moved fucks youtu.be/JZ8RIHTNGV4?... especially as an evergreen ever motivational defiant protest song [Rhiannon Giddens & Francesco Turrisi- live 2022]
- I am seeing a lot of this kind of comment from people who appear to know what they're talking about, and my cornered rats hypothesis is holding up to the evidence so far. The theatrical cruelty will get worse as they come to realize that they are going to lose and face a reckoning. But we will win.
- I'm sure there's a reason, things don't happen without a reason.
- Middle school in 2026. I will always feel bad for the kids in middle school when covid arrived, they will never fully fit in with their age cohort because their early adolescence got fucked up. The same thing is happening to these kids now, but I don't feel as bad about this mini-generation, 1/2
- I think they will come through it with a lot less tolerance for bullshit and untruth than we are used to living with. I am not going to stop being hopeful. This is a feel-good story.
- Somebody please remind me, what's the name of the site where I can go to see how many people have blocked Bill Maher @realbillmaher here on bsky?
- Helpful perspective from ground level if you've seen some of this talk happening.
- Took me like three seconds and then I laughed out loud.
- Ed is my Senator and that makes me damned proud. He doesn't have to be prodded, he knows what public service means.
- I honestly didn't know Playboy was still alive, but it doesn't surprise me a bit to read that sex workers know how to organize and run a community support and resistance movement.
- One thing I love about Bluesky is these little glimpses into the trials that people wrestle with in their day-to-day lives that I am totally oblivious to. It's so true what they say, you never know what someone else is going through.
- 174 cosponsors to impeach Kristi Noem. I know the saying about counting chickens, but this is an impressive number.
- Reposted by Carter's DadThe coolest Congresswoman there’s ever been.
- Reposted by Carter's DadI'm afraid I now need to see it
- I checked the story, and no surprise, the "widespread criticism" is from professional antisemitism accusers and Trumpists, nothing to see here. Walz is right.
- Reposted by Carter's Dadilhan omar is actually one of the bravest people in the world.
- Reposted by Carter's DadI'm physically immune to bad internet at this point
- This is good, but today I have received multiple emails from Squad members asking for money to help w/ the costs for security details. These people are dealing with real life-and-death danger as the government/country tries to keep itself from spinning completely out of control. Bless their courage.
- Oh good, here's that interesting-looking article that was paywalled at the NYTimes, or at least the first paragraphs that give you the basic information, free to read and with ALT-text. Yay for people who do this.
- "Its acronym, F.A.F.O., references a slang term for negative consequences." www.nytimes.com/2026/01/27/u...
- I think Bezos thinks that he is a visionary, and unfortunately he is a megabillionaire who can afford to indulge his fantasies no matter how much damage they do. And when they fail he just gets bored and walks away. WaPo, Megaverse, Amazon Stores/Fresh, a trail of devastation he won't even look at.

- OK, I didn't search hard enough, "San Miguel Sheriff" is the secret phrase.
