- Forgive a girl for having read leviathan,(and grown up Calvinist) but every time I see this sentiment I get flashbacks. This is how the justification for repressing your own desires and living only by the rules of an absolute sovereign or “the good book” /1
- The assumption that we are sinful wretched creatures leads to authoritarianism and repression because if humanity is innately evil then it must be controlled by a higher power, which is how the in group justify their control /2
