- Persistent reports of ICE using drones, including this highly suspected ICE drone photographed being launched from a suburban park. It’s a HoverFly Spectre, a “tethered” surveillance drone flown over unspooling fiber-optic cables. I’d be curious if anyone knows a civilian use case
- I know a tiny amount about this. There's no use case for fiberoptic drones for civilian use. The fiberoptic is to defeat anti-jamming countermeasures, which are increasingly common on battlefields or maybe accessible to, IDK, cartels or terror groups. That drone costs ~$20,000+, unlikely civil.
- This is not correct. There *are* civilian uses for tethered stationary drones like this one - they’ve been around for a long time. They are quite different from the fiber optic drones you’d see in Ukraine. However, they are certainly most widely *used* by law enforcement. bsky.app/profile/fain...
- This looks like a Hoverfly Sentry, a tethered drone commonly used by law enforcement for persistent overwatch of certain areas at about 200 feet max (no need to swap batteries). They do have civilian uses for event security, disaster response, traffic monitoring. hoverflytech.com/tethered-dro...
