Tracking military traffic to/from Kaliningrad, Russia via ATC comms.
Tracking data here pastebin.com/raw/XyvXpnmK
- First visit 2026 from the SIGINT Il-20M that came from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad at around 08:00UTC today. Callsign 75291. Several QRA:s visited for photo ops. Happy and safe hunting to the QRA:s the coming week!
- Sorry! I got the An-124 RF-82034 wrong in my last post, and had to re-check. It arrived on the 12:th, left on the 13:th and came again today at lunch, and nothing else.
- 1/3 A while since i posted but all traffic has been accounted for. Fresh spreadsheet for 2026, same old planes. It has been quite slow as the Russian Christmas takes place January 7:th. To note RF-82034 (An-124) on the 13:th, and no sign of it leaving yet.
- 2/3 Not sure about the Be-200 on the 16:th. Have no traffic from that one but a fighter jet (c/s 20494) at the same time. Was the fighter jet escorting? RF-85856 (Tu-154) arrived 26:th but stayed until 17:th January. A bit uncommon with such a long stay.
- 3/3 New Pastebin document for 2026 with all data that i post, and is updated between posts here. pastebin.com/m57symM8
- All tracking data that i have gathered during the year is available here pastebin.com/XyvXpnmK Would say it contains almost of all military traffic to/from Kaliningrad that uses ATC. 78% of the traffic in the list is not visible on any trackers due to not using ADS-B/Mode-S
- One An-124 (RF-82034) arrived yesterday to Kaliningrad, Russia at around 14:00UTC and left today at 08:30UTC. "Black Pearl" (RF-12041/Tu-134-UBL) has been staying for a few days. Arrived on the 9:th, left yesterday the 15:th. Neither aircraft visible on trackers. Identified via ATC radio traffic.
- Lagging a bit behind due to life but all traffic to/from Kaliningrad, Russia has now been accounted for. To note for the last week, Il-20M SIGINT visited, Black Pearl (RF-12041), and a bit more An-72:s than usual to mention a few. Updates since last post in green.
- One An-124 (RF-82034) arrived yesterday to Kaliningrad, Russia with a few other interesting aircraft belonging to FSB (RA-85084 and RA-61712). It left today at around 10:00UTC. In contrast to the other two, the An-124 was not visible on any tracker, only identified via Vilnius ATC radio traffic.
- Caught up with a few days of backlog traffic. To mention a few more civil Il-76 visits. The Il-20M SIGINT aircraft left home on Friday the 28:th and has not been seen this week. A civil An-26B (LTS9601/RA-26130) visited from the company "Letnye Proverki I Sistemy" for airport calibration flights.
- Is this what the Russian "Black Pearl" Tu-134 UBL (RF-12041) has been doing? Escorting new assets to Kaliningrad?
- Hmm, another Il-20M SIGINT aircraft arrived today around 11:00UTC. Usually there are only one arrival per week but the one who came Monday could have left. (They arrive via civil ATC but mostly leave outside, therefor hard to know departure of the Il-20:s)
- Il-20M SIGINT aircraft arrived today at around 09:00UTC to Kaliningrad. Happy hunting to all QRA:s this week! Be safe! Updates since last post in green.
- So we had more visits from civilian Il-76:s. In total three so far RA-76951, RA-76834 and RA-76846 Civilian Il-76 visits are five in total. Two in February and the last week three. These are trackable on FR24 as they all have ADS-B-transponder.
- Regarding the An-124 yesterday. It came and left in close proximity with another aircraft, RA-76951.A civilian Il-76. They arrived within 30 minutes of each other, and left today. According to the flight plan, the Il-76 will soon arrive in Urumqi, China. Could it be the same for the An-124?
- The An-124 seen from high above at Chkalovsk airbase at 10:07 UTC today. (Thanks to @avivector.com)
- An-124 (RF-82011) visiting today. Since last update two arrivals from the "Black Pearl" RF-12041 (Tu-134-UB-L). That makes 4 visits in total in the last 30 days, and not previously seen. Just a bit of a quirk, no arrivals or departures at all Monday and Tuesday. Not sure why.
- The Il-78 "Midas" tanker that crossed into Lithuanian airspace on October 23:rd during AAR training, left Kaliningrad today at around 16:00UTC. The individual was RF-94289. Updates since last post in green. www.armyrecognition.com/news/aerospa...
- And because i wrote yesterday that no Il-20M SIGINT was seen last week, one arrived around 07:30 UTC today. "First visit" by RA-76599 (Il-76MD)
- Last week or so traffic to/from Kaliningrad, Russia. Not that much to note, no Il-20M this week that i heard of. "First visit" by RF-86870 (Il-76M), RF-78813 (Il-76MD), RF-78894 (Il-76MD), RF-85655 (Tu-154M) ("First visit" meaning since i started logging in February)
- Vilnius closed again? SAS746 turning around/holding.
- Seems to be closed until 18:00UTC. Unknown reason. SAS746 diverting back to Copenhagen according to FR24
- More holding
- Balloons x.com/flightradar2...
- Hmm there are mentions of balloons(?) at Vilnius airport on Guard (121.500). SAS742 talked about diverting to Palanga.
- SAS742 confirmed diverting to Palanga
- "Black Pearl", RF-10241 (Tu-134 UB-L) visiting again today, and a first visit from RF-76549 (Il-76MD) Updates since last post in green. (The Pastebin-link in my bio with my spreadsheet data is often updated more regularly than posting here)
- The SIGINT aircraft Il-20M that arrived on the 7:th left for mainland Russia around 09:30 UTC. The An-124 that arrived yesterday departed a bit after 06:00 UTC.
- A bit of confirmation bias perhaps but there is an Il-76 that has done three visits in the same timespan as the An-124. Neither has been seen before (logging started in February)
- As a side note, how common is it with 400 arrivals and 9 months of data to have three or more arrivals with the same aircraft in the same 7 day period?
- Is traffic picking up to/from Kaliningrad? Four visits by the huge An-124:s in the last two weeks, with three visits the last three days. First visits (in my book) from RA-73025 (Airbus A319-115), RF-86902 (Il-76MD), RA-82030 (An-124-100), RF-78794 (Il-76MD)
- Rare guest visiting Kaliningrad today, RF-12041 a Tu-134UB-L landed around 16:00 UTC. The Tu-134-UB-L is a trainer for Tu-160 and Tu-22M3 pilots. theaviationist.com/2020/02/15/u... Attached is also all other traffic to/from Kaliningrad, Russia since my last post.
- Update on the military traffic to/from Kaliningrad, Russia. It has been a while since the last update so the list is a bit longer. But all traffic has been accounted for.
- Had one identify as "Romeo Foxtrot 87070" which usually should be an aircraft with reg. RF-87070, but cant find any info on this. New? Faked callsign? First visits in my book by RF-76325 (Il-76TD), RF-86888 (Il-76M), RA-61728 (An-148-100E) and RA-82037 (An-124-100)
- Hmm... 🤔 not sure what to make of an An-72 (callsign 61115) today. At the same time as we seem to have a bunch of Mig-31/Su-30:s in the area (around 08:00 UTC) 61115 did a turnaround "according to flight plan".
- Was it escorted or a part of the "gang"? It just correlates in time very well and never heard this maneuver before. The route was PIVAX - GARSO - PIPOM and a left turn back to PIVAX.
- Military aircraft movements to/from Kaliningrad, Russia for the last week that are mostly not trackable on flight-trackers. To note, Il-20M arrived this evening. Two "first visits" (in my logging) by RF-78661 and RF-76745, both Il-76:s. An-72:s working hard.
- The Russian SIGINT aircraft (type Il-20M) left the Baltics this morning. (Updates since last post in green)
- And a Il-20M arrived before lunch today. Different aircraft than left yesterday.
- Regarding traffic to/from Kaliningrad, Russia, nothing exiting so far Zapad-wise other than RF-85856 (Tu-154M) seems to have increased its visits. Updates since last post in green. (Complete spreadsheet pasted here pastebin.com/raw/XyvXpnmK)
- The complete spreadsheet can be found in this paste and is regularly updated (also between posts here) pastebin.com/raw/XyvXpnmK
- "Zapad 2025" supposedly started today, but no sign in the traffic to/from Kaliningrad. No arrivals or departures at all yesterday and today only two visits. Updates since last post in green.
- Three visits by RF-85856 (Tu-154M) in the last ~28h. Dropping people off? Il-20M SIGINT came yesterday and a first visit (in my list) by RF-93998, Antonov An-26KPA. Updates since last post in green.
- Swedish Airforce confirms Il-20M x.com/flygvapnet/s...
- A Tupolev Tu-214-PU (command post / VIP transport similar to C-32 or E-6B) currently visiting Kaliningrad, Russia as of lunch local time. (Attached is a list on all movements the last few days to/from Kaliningrad, both visible and not visible on flight trackers. Updates since last post in green)
- Military traffic (mostly not visible on flight trackers) to and from Kaliningrad, Russia for the last week. Traffic in green since last post.
