- Finally, some concrete steps on defense readiness - but it’s not enough. We require a fundamental change in the way we organise our defence. Create a United States of Europe with a European Army that can defend it! 🇪🇺
- Our democracy is under attack. We have to defend it! It is unacceptable that Russian espionage exists within the EU, and even more so that we don’t get to the bottom of it. We must secure the right of inquiry to address for the European Parliament to investigate interferences in our democracy.

- 🤯 The National Security Strategy of the USA was just published. It’s an explicit plan to weaken the EU: they want Europe to operate as a group of sovereign nations. Their strategy even prioritizes: “Cultivating resistance to Europe’s current trajectory within European nations.”
- The pattern has been visible for years, but now it’s explicit. The USA aims to interfere in our democracy, support nationalistic parties, and undermine the EU’s unity from within. Why? A united Europe is the only way Europe is strong enough to resist what Trump wants.

- The Commission wrapped a digital Christmas 🎁… and handed it straight to the US tech giants. Instead of strengthening Europe’s digital future, this ‘simplification’ opens loopholes and leaves European innovators behind. Europe needs a tech strategy that backs our startups first, not Silicon Valley.
- The ruling party Georgian Dream is turning Georgia into a Russian nightmare. For months, citizens have protested in the cold and rain to demand a European future. Their determination clearly scares PM Kobakhidze, who now pushes harsher fines and longer prison sentences for peaceful protesters.
- It’s become clear that Georgian police used chemical weapons against their own citizens. Protesting is a core democratic right, this is unacceptable. We should sanction Georgian Dream’s leadership, fund independent media, and support the democratic voices. The real dream of Georgia is European 🇪🇺
- The enemies of European democracies aren't super spies- they are corrupt politicians and social media trolls. These attacks on democracy are taking power from European citizens and putting them in the hands of foreign powers. We must call this out and build stronger institutions to combat it.
- New reporting shows foreign trolls tried to influence the Dutch elections, boosting FvD figures. This is just one example. I’m increasingly convinced we’re only seeing a fraction of the foreign interference damaging our democracies. We need stronger oversight & stricter rules on foreign influence!
- Europe took decades to unite after the WWII - a democratic achievement still in progress. There is only one way to avoid Ukraine’s defeat and a split Europe: Russia must be stopped in Ukraine, peace must be fair, and Europe must finally speak with one voice. A United States of Europe!
- We just urged President Metsola to end the European Parliament’s dependence on foreign tech. The EP runs on US hardware and Microsoft tools that put EU data at risk. Europe already has secure alternatives, what’s missing is political will. Time for real tech sovereignty! 🇪🇺
- The European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP) is only the first step. Now we must focus on how Europe can work together more effectively, how we can develop joint capabilities, and how we can advance toward a strong European army! Read my reaction here!
- Yesterday, mysterious drones flew over the Netherlands: another sign Europe’s skies aren’t safe. They targeted Volkel airbase, where US nuclear weapons are stored. And similar incidents keep popping up across Europe. So how do we stop Russian drones? I spoke about it in the European Parliament.
- A €100M corruption scandal is shaking Ukraine. Money meant to protect energy infrastructure was stolen, leaving people in the cold and in the dark. This damages morale at a critical moment. Volt wants Ukraine to win and join the EU. But great friends are also the most critical.
- The good news: NABU and SAPO proved they are independent and effective. The EU must start accession talks on Rule of Law, despite Orban’s blockade. And Ukraine should issue an EU-wide arrest warrant for main suspect Timur Mindich. It’s needed to restore trust at home and among allies.
- I read something that made me smile. Across from the Russian embassy in The Hague (yes), a plaque & bench now honour Alexei Navalny - thanks to a petition signed over 86,000 times. A beautiful tribute to Navalny, and a reminder of what active citizenship can achieve! nos.nl/l/2589653
