- Hermy with her cute pink nose got her shave yesterday. She was a little over conditioned like her mom. However, she is half Icelandic from her dad’s side, so I expect to see a “sprung” ribcage on her. She was a little nervous at first but settled in. #wool #shearing
- She’s a real sweet girl. She’ll be two years old next month. Thank you, Baby Hermy!
- I’m imagining I’m not the only one who has an official name for their pet followed by a slew of nicknames. What are all the names that you call your beloved pet with a picture (or several) please!?! I’ll get us started. #petnames Mojito the llama, aka Mo, Mo Mo, Moses, Proud Mo.
- Lamby, Lamb-Lamb, Lamby the unRammy (he’s neutered)
- Opened up Jamboree’s fleece today. Such a pretty Gotland; beautiful long curls. Only her 2nd shear ever & she was nervous, understandably; I stopped/started many times to talk her thru the sound, switch to blade shears, etc. This is my Jammy’s daughter from last spring (Jammy was shorn yesterday).
- Soft & exquisite wool. Jamboree’s grandmother had some fun birthmark patterns on her face & I see that in Jamboree. Her grandmother was incredibly docile, a quality in both Jammy & Jamboree. #gotlandsheep #wool #shearing
- My lovely TT Girl (Gotland ewe lamb) got her 2nd shear yesterday. I have been so impressed w/ her since Day One. Always has a beautiful body condition & impressive wool. She won 1st place Gotland at Oregon Flock & Fiber last October. I look forward to entering her at Black Sheep. Truly special ewe.
- Here’s a video on how to assess your sheep’s body condition. Hazel was shorn yesterday and I was surprised at how much extra weight she’s hauling. #animalwellness #sheepfriends
- Proud Mo llama with his best ewe lamb friend Little Cow at breakfast this morning. He gave her a little kiss as they shared their hay. #icelandicsheep #mojitothellama #guardllama #fiberfarm #handspinnersflock
- A few of the angora goats glowing in the dawn. Pretty Laurie saying hello. She was all in my business yesterday and kept biting my ass while I was shearing silly Hazel yesterday. Leave it to a goat to always be naughty. #angoragoats
- My faithful Lamby got a haircut today in the freakishly warm weather. Because he’s a neutered male, I knew he was carrying a little extra fat & can handle the odd timing of this shearing. Lamby was my very 1st sheep & remembers well my early (& less successful) attempts at shearing him back then.
- For that reason, he hates when I shear his hindquarters. He also anticipates that I’m going to give him a vaccine. Poor buddy. He did well enough and the other sheep spent time inspecting him after his haircut. Those other fat girls out there are next! #gotlandsheep
- Isabelle and me while she discovered the delights of a slicker brush on itchy spots. #gotlandsheep
- Sweet Jamboree playing a little coy yesterday. Her mom and grandmother are exceptionally personable and I am glad to see she inherited this trait. #gotlandsheep
