- I’m about 1/4th of the way through the story of Final Fantasy 16 and I can not even believe how generic and un-FF it is. This is like the Roland Emmerich’s Godzilla of Final Fantasies standing next to the other zillas. It’s like they told staff at Naughty Dog to write it. AAA gloss over pure pablum.
- I’m not necessarily trying to say that Uncharted is pablum or FFXVI is much like it, but it’s more that the story and characters seem to be aiming for mass appeal to the American Gamer in an unchallenging, and to me unengaging way. The summons are used in the most cliché AAA oo-rah way here, too 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

- I’ve now caught up on Final Fantasy (except 16) and the Xeno series, so I recently resumed my notoriously-insane-JRPG studies by finally taking the plunge into Nier it took years to get me, but I’ve finally been Yoko Taro-pilled. This shit insane. This is an unhealthy amount of lore for any diet.
- I’m not going to blow any minds with the opinion that Nier Automata is one of the greatest games of all time. Capital A Art, up there with Shadow of the Colossus and some other perfect ludonarrative thing idk (not much of a gamer). But that is SO crazy once you know more about Nier and Drakengard.
- There’s no perfect comparison as Yoko Taro’s work is so unique, but it feels like if a Warhammer movie about the apocalypse that magically happens to make perfect sense on its own, made by a guy who’s only made inscrutable inaccessible Warhammer books (movies games stage plays), won Best Picture.
