The South was bouyed up in the US by the North... that is part of why the South got its but kicked once northern production and kicked into war footing. The south did not have the skilled labor force to compete.
Saudi Arabia is a banana republic. If the demand for oil drops, they are screwed, and all their skilled labor is foreign, not Saudi.
Once the money dries up, they are going to have a hard time oppressing those laborers. But also, there is no other industry in Saudi Arabia. Like the US South...
Jan 31, 2026 19:43Slave labor only works for monolithic economies. The Plantation system can only grow food or build buildings. Anything else requires more work. If modern capitalists could figure out how to make factory workers slaves they would. To easy for factory workers to sabotage.
