  Fix it February has been launched in Cardiff by the Deputy First Minister with responsibility for Climate Change and Rural Affairs, Huw Irranca-Davies, as Wales’s repair café network passed a major carbon saving milestone. The year-round free repair service has now saved more than one million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions. The Welsh Government says this is equivalent to an average petrol car travelling 11.2 million miles, or driving the length of the A470 more than 60,000 times.

  Former Wales international Tom Lockyer has teamed up with fellow cardiac arrest survivor and Wrexham supporter Maurice Jones to front a Wales-wide call for football fans to learn CPR. The initiative forms part of the latest phase of the Every Minute Matters campaign, run by Sky Bet in partnership with the British Heart Foundation, marking Heart Month in February. Lockyer, who collapsed during high-profile matches while playing for Luton Town in 2023, met Mr Jones at Bristol Rovers’ training ground to share their experiences and highlight the importance of immediate action during a cardiac arrest.

  ‘Small but mighty’ Wrexham dance group earns national diversity award nomination

  A small but mighty dance organisation has been shortlisted for one of the UK’s most prestigious diversity awards, alongside household names including Sir Elton John, Emma Watson and Sir Lenny Henry. WISP Dance Club, which operates in Wrexham and Flintshire, has been named a finalist in the Community Project of the Year category at the British Diversity Awards 2026. The nomination recognises its Creu 30 Mwy (Create 30 More) project, which celebrated the organisation’s 30th anniversary in 2025 through a programme of weekly dance sessions for people with additional needs; workshops with internationally-renowned disabled artist Marc Brew and with audio describers; as well as North Wales’ first inclusive dance festival which involved partnerships and performances with Welsh Dance companies Dawns i Bawb, Dance Collective and Humans Move.

  Growing pressure on Wales’s teaching workforce is threatening schools’ ability to recruit and retain staff, according to a new Senedd report. Challenging pupil behaviour, increasing workload, reform fatigue, and expectations on schools to "shoulder responsibilities that sit far beyond teaching and learning" are some of the biggest factors affecting the profession, the Senedd's Children, Young People and Education Committee found. The new report, released after a Committee inquiry, highlights that while teachers remain deeply committed to their learners, it has become increasingly difficult for them to do the job they love.

According to recent research, more than one in four people say they, or someone they know, have been approached by an AI chatbot posing as a real person on a dating app or social media platform.

  Wrexham's MP has moved to reassure residents after rumours circulated that Llyndir Hall Hotel in Rossett could reopen to house asylum seekers. Andrew Ranger MP said he had been contacted by constituents concerned by claims being shared across social media, but stressed there is no evidence to support them. Rumours have been circulating that preparation work is underway to prepare the hotel as accommodation for asylum seekers, following direction from the Home Office.
