Jennifer Braun
Here for the lit talk.
- #nyrbwomen26 Lolly Willowes was such a gas to read, I found myself trying to explain the book, the plot to anyone I ran into, and you can imagine how that went! For those still readling I will just say I loved section 2, and section 3 is hard to explain to your favorite barista!
- Reposted by Jennifer BraunWhy are Americans putting up with a regime that has zero respect for its people? My own opinion thinks voting out Trump will never happen in the mid terms. Neither will the Epstein files be released just like he evaded jail from insurrection on Jan 06th. Corrupt political and judiciary
- #rachelcusktogether I am finally almost caught up, wondering about the dogs too, old school discipline-spanking, swatting, but beating is a very strong word. Dogs seem to help the male characters cope with their families? Dogs are easier than people. Has anyone read any of her memoirs?
- #nyrbwomen25 I finished Mourning a Breast this morning and feel sad to leave Xi Xi behind, having fallen for her friendship, erudition, her Hong Kong, and her unique way of discussing illness. I have to find more from her--I wonder if NYRB will be coming out with more XI XI?
- Purple mashed potatoes for #Thankgiving? Why not with sesame paste from Japan, sesame oil with and without chili, a touch of honey if you want it a bit sweeter?
- Love the dual publication of The Week of Colors, Elena Garro & Queen of Spades, Jazmina Barrera. Garro's stories are little magical pearls; Barrera's "bio" of Garro shows a world of Mexican intellectuals not well known in the US. I want more from both! @catranslation.org
- #NYRBWomen25 Mourning a Breast is a warm gentle read, XiXi carefully tells her story, letting us join in her daily life, filled with the story of the battle, as cancer is a battle, but also showing us her rich mind, sharing martial arts and her insightful knowledge of literature, what a delight.
- #rachelcusktogether Another fantastic first chapter, Someone mentioned the font earlier, I think it might be affecting how I read her. I wonder if she had a say in its choice? I keep thinking of the word tidy, how she sets up her scenes and characters so carefully, then they wander off to???
- Reposted by Jennifer BraunYou have to love the stores in San Francisco...😂👍
- online.ucpress.edu/jams/article... This is a fantastic article that should be read by all arts producers and audiences.
- The trilogy has been universally praised for doing something thrillingly new with the novel form—a wonderful outcome, but also perhaps indicative of what Cusk suspected: that people would prefer an absent narrator to a specific, female one. Paris Review on Rachel Cusk #rachelcusktogether
