The Stanley Cap
Official Bluesky account for TheStanleyCap.com. NHL player contracts, team salary cap info and more.
- Not even out a day and I have a nice enhancement of these team cards. Added to the 2025-26 team cards are 5 year trends. I love Utah's trends, especially for Create, Pen. Kill and Skating. thestanleycap.com/teams/utah-m...
- New Feature: Team cards. Team cards for the current season and the past 5 seasons can be found in the 'Team Cards' tab on team pages. thestanleycap.com/teams/pittsb...
- The Colorado Skating trend is pretty interesting too. thestanleycap.com/teams/colora...
- BTW, you can copy the URLs from the Team Cards tab and post the image file directly in your posts if you want.

- I have also made the aligned all color scales across the website (player cards, player/team stats tables) to match the red-blue color scale of these team cards.
- TheStanleyCap.com is now free ad-free. The other day I visited a website that wanted permission to use cookies and share data with advertisers and partners. In total they were requesting permission to share data with over 200 businesses. I have decided I cannot facilitate this practice.
- I am by no means a privacy zealot, but people deserve not to be tracked and not to have their data shared with hundreds of businesses, most you have never heard of and many not from the country you live.
- Yes, this will cost The Stanley Cap a valuable revenue stream so this decision wasn't made lightly but the privacy of our users matters. We do no collect any unnecessary data and we would never share it with or sell and visitor tracking data anyone.
- All we ask is that if you gain value from The Stanley Cap that you consider subscribing or making a donation. In doing so you will be supporting an independently operated ad-free NHL Salary Cap and Hockey Analytics website and help to fund future site development. www.thestanleycap.com/subscriptions
- Site Update: I have added all of the hockey analytics reports that are on Puckalytics.com to TheStanleyCap.com. You can access the reports from the STATS pull down menu. These will exactly match the Puckalytics reports so you can choose which look you like best.
- For those unfamiliar, these reports show individual and on-ice statistics for skaters, goalies, lines, defense pairs, 5v4 PP units, 4v5 PK units and teams. You can also see NHL edge data for skaters and teams in tabular form which makes comparing players much easier than you can on the NHL website.

- Martin Necas signs an 8 year $11.5M AAV contract extension with the Avalanche. At the pace players are getting extended there will be no top tier free agents left next summer. thestanleycap.com/players/mart...
- One more announcement, and this is a good one. I am happy to announce that through database and code optimizations I have achieved significant reductions in page load times making the user experience significantly better. Team and Player pages load 50-60% faster than previously.
- Happy Anniversary to TheStanleyCap.com. One year ago today, on Oct 30, 2024, The Stanley Cap officially opened its doors on the World Wide Web. It's been a year of ups and downs, learning and growing, and adding new features.
- While the first year was focused on building the foundation, the year ahead will be focused on growth and expansion through adding new features and new partnerships and adding value for all of our users. New tools. New Analytics. New interactive features.
- It is worth reminding everyone that the goal of TheStanleyCap is not to just be a CapFriendly replacement, but to be an everything NHL website, a central hub where NHL fans get all the up to date information on all their favourite teams and players. Salaries, Contracts, News, Statistics, Analytics.

- I understand that people don't like red=good and blue=bad in my player cards. I cannot switch them around because my mind doesn't think that way. However, I am willing to switch to green is good. Thoughts on this color scheme?
- Update to Player Cards: You can now find 2023-24 and 2024-25 player cards on player pages which is useful for players who have not played the minimum 5GP this season to have a card. NHL Edge data doesn't go back any further so it doesn't make sense to go back any further using this format.
- Player cards are now live on TheStanleyCap.com. Just click the Player Card tab on any player page if they have played at least 5 games this season.

- Here is a sample player card for sharp shooter Pavel Dorofeyev where you can clearly see he has had a hard accurate shot for a few seasons now. He's not much of a skater though.
- If you want to use or share these feel free but follow the terms of use as shown next to the player card on the players page. Mostly, provide a link back and/or acknowledgement of the source (The Stanley Cap), don't overburden our servers with unapproved hotlinks, and fair use rules apply.
- Oh, and these are only for skaters for now. I'll hopefully get to goalies soon but I'll probably do team cards next.
- Here is where I am at with the player cards. I know some people prefer red=bad and blue=good but my eyes don't work that way and that isn't how the website is set up either. So think Red=Hot=Good, Blue=Cold=Bad.
- A lot of people don't like Red indicating Good and Blue indicating Bad. My brain is completely re-wired the other way around. No guarantee that I'll change things up, but which of these do you like better? Blue=Good or Red=Good (I probably need to tone down the color scales regardless).
- Working on some player cards (team cards coming soon too). I still have some tweaking but what are your thoughts so far? This guy seems pretty good.
- Interested in supporting an NHL Salary Cap website? I have about half the teams covered and half are still looking for a volunteer to maintain rosters and lineups. Teams in need of admins are: BUF, BOS, TOR, CAR, CBJ, NJD, PHI, CHI, NSH, STL, UTA, WPG, ANA, CGY, SJS, SEA, VAN, VGK.
- All that is needed is to enter transactions (promotions, demotions, injuries, etc.) and adjust lineups to reflect projected and actual game lineups. There is absolutely no math involved as the salary cap calculations are all automatically done.
- If you are an avid fan of the team and already keep track of roster/lineup moves it will only be a few minutes of work a day. Your work will allow me to add new features like detailed game previews/reviews.
- We are still looking for volunteers to help maintain team transactions and rosters/lineups. Plenty of teams are still in need of admins.
- Today is the last day for you to save 40% when you sign up for a Stanley Cap subscription. You support helps pay the server costs and fund the growth of the site.

- I spent a good part of yesterday and today optimizing the team and player pages on TheStanleyCap.com. I have more that I can do but they should load somewhat faster now. Team page load times reduced ~30-40% and player pages ~20%.
- I've had a few questions about how much work this will be. For most teams it might be 5-10 minutes per day and some days maybe none. It requires updating lineups on game days and entering transactions (promotions/demotions from minors mostly) when they occur.
- I am looking for this help so I don't need to do this for all 32 teams this season allowing me to focus on adding new features and growing the site.
- Are you interested in helping run an NHL Salary Cap website? I am looking for volunteers to help maintain NHL rosters and lineups for the upcoming season. The only requirement is that you are a fan of one (or more) NHL teams and have the ability to enter team transactions/lineups on a daily basis.
- If you are interested send me a DM or e-mail (feedback at the stanley cap dot com) including what teams you are willing to help out with and one or two sentences on what makes you a good candidate to maintain a teams roster.
