tryna get around LA on foot, bike, skateboard, bus, and train
- This is literally my dream
- Reposted by Will ProctorThe City of Los Angeles has 43,700 homeless people. Seven of them die on the streets every day. Mobilizing the planning department to slow-walk new mixed income housing near the train stations that taxpayers spent billions of dollars building reflects perverse priorities at best.
- After failing to stop a major state housing bill from becoming law, Los Angeles leaders are turning to plan B: Delaying Senate Bill 79's implementation and pushing for unspecified legislative changes next year. My dispatch for @politico.com Pro subscribers subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2025...
- The epidemic of A line bunching continues. Waited 17 mins for a train then ofc there are 3 in a row. @metrolosangeles.bsky.social please fix this! Is this gonna get worse when the line is extended next month??
- Reposted by Will ProctorI wrote an unusually strongly worded thing about the transit crisis in Pennsylvania, which is coming soon to Oregon and Illinois. humantransit.org/2025/08/the-...
- 18 mins for an A line train at 4:40 on a Friday? Then 3 in 6 mins. Insane bunching for a rail line
- Reposted by Will ProctorThe 14th Street Busway has been a smashing success: faster commutes, fewer crashes, calmer streets. So why is Eric Adams blocking a similar plan for 34th Street?

- For the discourse, I actually ordered from the app-powered vending machine at LAX Transit Center. My thoughts: - it is very dumb you *need* to download an app to order - the app kinda sucks - I have no idea how this is is better than a normal vending machine
- - the app forces you to have notifications on to make purchases (very bad) - the prices are actually very reasonable (good!) Also: my first order got stuck so I reached out to support to make sure I wasn’t charged. They were very responsive. Overall: 3/10
- Full wraps and window dots on the Pacific Surfliner should be illegal @amtrak.com
- Disneyland advertisement 🫠
- We are living in a Veep bit
- Why is @metrolosangeles.bsky.social so bad at updating signs? How long do we think it will take Metro to have consistent station signs at Imperial/Aviation station?
- Credit where it’s due. Metrolink OC line headed south out of Union Station on the :40 and Amtrak on the :10 slaps. Super easy to remember. We now just need more Amtrak trains to get legit 30 minutely service
- Just biked the whole new path! Very awesome to have such a high quality bike path in LA!
- A couple things that could be improved. 1) Intersections - need to press a beg button to get walk signal, walk signal doesn’t last whole light cycle, and left turns across the path go before pedestrians and bikes.
- 2) the rail to rail path weirdly ends close but not at the A and K lines. It also passes the J line but I didn’t see an easy way to cross the street to get to the station.

- Metrolink operates two hourly trains from Union Station to Burbank. Instead of having a train every 30 mins, they have two trains in 9 mins and then a 51 min gap. This seems like a huge miss not to have 30 min frequency on this line segment. Is this needed for their pulse scheduling?
- It’s insane that the concert venue at OC’s Great Park is a 2 hour walk from the Irvine train station. They should make it as easy as possible to take the train to these concerts
- Reposted by Will ProctorWith zero public outreach or notice, LA Metro removed a 3.3-mile protected bike lane from the North Hollywood BRT project design because it would have resulted in a 30% reduction of street parking. A *transit agency* prioritized a couple blocks of parking over the safety of its riders.
- Biking in deserted flower district streets in DTLA on a @metrolosangeles.bsky.social bike >>>
- Bus bunching on the 720 continues to be outta control
- Forget 28 by 28 but by the Olympics can we have the correct line names at the stations? It has been 5 years since the name changed to the B Line and 19 years (!!) since the introduction of the Purple Line that services this station.
- If there is only one working escalator, it should be required to run up. Seems like a basic quality of life improvement that would be very easy to implement
- No buses for 18 mins, then three in six mins. Lovely
- 7th St Metro Center during rush hour is one of the few places + times LA feels like a real city
- Still baffled that the light at 12th street and flower prioritizes left turning cars over the A and E lines. Seems so easy to move the left arrow to the end of the phase.
- Currently walking through a diamond freeway on-ramp in suburban ATL from the MARTA station to my hotel. AMA
- Honestly not as dehumanizing as I thought it would be. Took me a while to figure out what was going on in the dark. Thought the sidewalk was ending but nope just going down the middle of the road. Would be better if the beg buttons worked tho!
- Reposted by Will ProctorI had been hearing rumors that LA NIMBYs were trying to hijack this crisis to roll back state housing law, but this is wild. Suspending the Housing Accountability Act for five years? In a city that already had a housing crisis before the fires? Insanity.
- Biking in Manhattan is so much fun. So much better than biking in LA
- Just walked the length on Manhattan on Broadway
- Can’t wait for Vancouver-style density around every rapid transit stop in the state!
- We are thrilled to announce SB 79, a new bill from @scottwiener.bsky.social that will legalize multi-family housing near transit. We are excited to co-sponsor this landmark legislation with SPUR, @streetsforall.org and the Bay Area Council.
- Reposted by Will Proctor"Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever" remains the official policy of a Los Angeles run by a group of people who identify as progressives. laist.com/news/housing...
- Reposted by Will ProctorInduced demand. Remove a vehicle lane = fewer cars. Add one = more cars. This will go down as one of the stupidest decisions made in the LA area, all to accomplish nothing and make the street more dangerous for all.
- VTA and Caltrain need to have better transfers. Blue line had 30 minutely service and it misses the connection to the hourly Caltrain service by 4 mins. You either have to wait 26 mins or 56 mins. Be more like BART!
- The transfer between SB Caltrain and VTA Orange Line and Mountain View (both every 30 mins) was perfect

- San Jose has gotten creative on their wide streets to create a curb-protected super wide bike and parking lane. I saw this from the bus this morning and had to check it out. Very pleasant to ride on and I felt safe at the intersections. LA should consider doing similar on Pico, Olympic, etc.
- And they had bus boarding islands at intersections. 10/10. San Jose surprisingly has a great network or protected bike lanes. LA needs to take notes. If SJ can have nice things, we can too!
- Some observations from Raleigh BART from San Jose to Walnut Creek. 1) trains are very clean and very well lit. I wish LA Metro subway cars had better lighting 2) Times transfers between Orange and Yellow lines are elite. Wish LA Metro would do this on the B and D lines at Wilshire/Vermont 1/
- 3) All but 4 stations have bathrooms. I looked up to see if any of the stations I was going to had a bathroom and was very impressed. Bathrooms at Berryessa and Walnut Creek were very clean. 2/
- 4) every time I take BART I am disappointed by the land use around every East bay station. Here is an example from Berryessa—parking garage and massive parking lot. We need skyscrapers at each station 5/
