- Medical equipment manufacturer Fukuda Denshi have renewed their naming rights for #JEFUnited Chiba's home stadium, Fukuda Denshi Arena (known to fans as Fukuari) through March 2031. Pour one out for officials who now have to deal w/ fiscal-year contracts that end 2 months before the season ends!
- ブログ更新:フクダ電子が千葉市蘇我球技場のネーミングライツ契約更新を発表!J1昇格効果で契約金は倍増 #jefunited blog.domesoccer.jp/archives/602...
- The annual value of the contract has doubled from ¥25 million to ¥50 million following JEF's promotion to the J1, which is in line with a clause in the previous contract. No word on whether the fee will drop should they be relegated back to the J2.
- When I joined the Japan Times sports desk it was staffed by six, when I left there were two of us and we had been w/o our own desk chief for 3+ years. Instead of sending someone to the WBC, the chief editor proposed covering international high school basketball to get parents to buy copies.
- A good sports section can help you understand so much about the world, because a good sports section isn't a dry recap of Xs and Os - it's about business, politics, society, health, technology, culture, art, fashion, science, psychology. Sports can be the window to the world if you let them.

- The #JLeague has announced the current state of overseas broadcasts for the HYVL. Little thin! For comparison, this was last year's list after Brazil was added in August. The league promises "up to four matches per round" for the J1 HYVL on the international YouTube channel.
- FC Imabari have produced wine made from grapes grown on the east side of Asics Satoyama Stadium. Just nine bottles were made in this experimental batch; the club eventually hopes to produce enough to sell. One bottle will be preserved for a celebratory toast when Imabari reaches the J1.
- I’m on day 2 of a nasty head cold and I gotta say, not a fan.
- Not just a 6+ word song title but a 6-word band name too
- The Asian Football Confederation says Japan is one of four candidates to have formally expressed interest in bidding for the 2035 Asian Cup. Apparently the goal is to vote on hosts for 2031 and 2035 at the same AFC Congress so we're now off to the races.
- By the time Saudi Arabia hosts in 2027 (hope all the construction/renovation goes well given the recent NEOM reports!), four of the most recent five Asian Cups will have been played in West Asia, so it will be nice to see the tournament come back a little further east.
- Thank you @brasilianfury.bsky.social for clueing me in to the fact that there *are* full subtitles in English, Portuguese and even Japanese! A must watch for #frontale and #urawareds fans in particular. #jleague
- The interview I sat down for with Brazilian soccer YouTube channel @peleja.bsky.social is finally out as part of their latest video essay, which is about the neverending Lost Decade, the malaise of salaryman culture, and where soccer and the #JLeague fit into Japanese society.
