Inspired by this 👇, I've just started again on Smiley's People. Whilst it's all (the plot, the cast, the acting, the filming etc etc) utterly brilliant, what really stands out is the total lack of incidental music - just lots & lots of (near) silence & nearly all the rest is just "actual" sounds.

  In a marker of how utterly NOW we are, Ben and I have just started watching the old 70s BBC Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy series. My god those London streets! And the clothes. And the cigarettes.
