- Kids at my school are planning a walk-out on Friday to protest ICE/CBP. Had a great discussion with 7th period; we talked about the history of non-violent resistance and using the power you do have for change, about the Freedom Rides and Jim Zwerg. The kids are OK. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Z...
- I suggest a conversation about personal agency and following a path of your own choosing, also. Actions can precipitate unexpected consequences. Getting arrested for protesting in high school triggered a significant change in my life path. Probably a change for the better.
- Absolutely. One of the things that we talked about is how the school is offering a sanctioned protest site on the soccer field, as opposed to going off campus, and the likely or possible repercussions versus impact of those different choices. This is reminding me why I love teaching high school.
- Cool! I would also mention the ultimate unknowability of the future. Very small things can have enormous personal impact when amplified by the passage of time.Feb 4, 2026 21:35
