A squeaky reader in the mouse house. Novacastrian Australian. Currently owned by two cavoodles, one old, one young. My home is in Barahineban of the Pambalong Awabakal people.
- The palliative care team from the hospital Mum was in over the Christmas holiday period have called, to see if their services are required yet. I said they’ll need to talk to the aged care package nurses about that.
- I looked in on Mum after that, in case the ringing of the landline had disturbed her, but she was asleep. And I was reminded that Jasper sleeps a lot, once he can get comfortable. How close is her position to his? And now there’re tears in my eyes. It will come one day, but does it have to be soon?
- Jasper rebooked for Monday early afternoon vet appointment & pet Uber. He’s blissfully unaware of it, with his rump perched on the edge of the new pet bed & the rest of him along the floor.
- She’s home, & about to receive a well-deserved cup of tea.
- Mum just called to say she should be home in about half an hour. There’s always a delay. At least it appears the delay won’t be until tomorrow this time.
- Sitting where I can see the driveway, in hope that a patient transport vehicle will drive up very soon. Tried phoning Mum just before 9 to see if things were happening, & went through to voicemail immediately. Not that this is always a good sign, though. Getting a bit anxious.
- Alright. Some conclusion has been made, & Mum will be discharged tomorrow morning. That won’t be the end of it, however. Mum’s care package may not be able to help her stay at home much longer. The future feels a little more grim this evening, even with Mum’s good news.
- And I cancelled Jasper’s appointment, but I’ll have to make a new one very soon. Dammitall. Not ready for any of this.
- Rang Mum to check if she had heard anything about coming home. It’s nearly 10 am, & nothing yet. She’s upset, understandably. I’ll go up later if I don’t hear anything before 1 pm. This is worrying because Jasper is booked for his appointment tomorrow. I might have to cancel.
- I bought a new dog bed last week. It’s seriously oversized, because I misjudged the size of the dog lying on it in the picture online. So it’s much bigger than Jasper. This morning is the first time he’s chosen to lie on it. He seems to be comfortable.
- Ah. He was comfortable. Now he’s decided to go back to the floor.
- I left Mum about 2.30 pm & nothing was happening on the discharge front at that point. Looks like she isn’t coming home today after all. And if there’s something even less gruntled than disgruntled, that would describe her mood.
- It’s nearly noon, and nobody has heard anything yet about Mum being discharged yet. Little wonder she was having doubts when I rang her a couple of hours ago before my brother picked me up to come and see her. We wait, as always.
