It's okay to mess things up. If you never make a mistake, you'll never grow.
- Last night's renders of my Gert.D retro robot progress. The daikon body type that I designed for my Astra, Amaris, Adara, and Alessia figures suits her well.
- I'm on a total insect kick now so wanted to revisit my insect fairy bjd and do another design in that world. This one for lack of a better term is the mothman.
- Finished my beetle displays for my bedroom last week. Also working on a light switch cover. Going for a dark academia aesthetic. Also finished refurbishing a dumpster dive mirror.
- Refinishing a really cool old celestial Sun shaped mirror i dumpster dived the other day for my current Bedroom redecorating. Going to finish it in a dark bronze with rub n buff highlights and a bit of patina in the grooves. #celestial #dumpsterdive #redecorate
- Finished my crow bids! I only meant to make one, but the first batch had a part fail so I figured if I was running it again anyway, I might as well make a 2nd. Black resin with some ChromeX color shifting pigments thinned with clear Mr. color and thinner sprayed finely between layers of matte Krylon
- Quick pic while the rain very temporarily breaks.
- Forgot to pull the crows out of the post cure machine. They turned out really well and after cleaning up the support nubs, will just need a clearcoat of color shifting pigments then a top coat before assembly. Ignore the lack of eyes in this pic. Talons are really sharp.
- I feel like I've been making things that are way too complicated. Makes me feel a little burned out so I decided to make some pigeons because my daughter loves pigeons. These are the first two. I'll probably end up making a bunch and a coop.
- I have two goldfish printed and ready to clean up and paint. I just need to find the motivation to do it but it's spring and my mind is on plants and gardening. Also redecorating my bedroom or just decorating because it's the only room I haven't done anything with yet.
- I've been really into plants the past few weeks because I'm itching to get outside. So I've been cleaning up all of my house plants making sure they're healthy. They're actually doing really well, which is surprising because I've killed so many in the past. I'm good with carnivorous though!
- I've been playing around with a bit of a throwaway character. A crow with minimal articulation. Just in the head and shoulders. I want the head to be able to caulk to the side. Might dress it up like a porch. Goose.
- Another addition to the "I hate selling on Etsy" list... I only sell a few 3D printable file sets there. It's clearly marked that they're files. Someone messaged me overnight asking why their order hasn't arrived. Happens a lot because people can't/don't/won't read. :-(
- But seriously... who looks at that image and thinks they're going to get that robot (presumably fully built) for only $35 and free shipping? You can't even get a decent toy or model for that much any more. And WAY too many people have assumed this there. Mind boggling.
- Why post the bloody thumb pic? Because it's important when you're skilled at something to show those just starting out and feel that they'll never get good at art ALL of the process and mistakes! We all make them and that's okay. It's what you learn from them that matters moving forward.
- I also Dremmeled a nice sized notch out of my other thumb nail yesterday while hollowing out an old resin head I've been sculpting over for a work thing. Not sure why people think art is fun and not work. hahah! I mean I love it, but it's a literal pain physically and mentally sometimes.
- Printing one more tray then onto sanding and such. Prints turned out great so far! Smashed my thumbnail inside the glove on edge of steel buildplate while scraping off parts. 😬 #3dprinting #arttoy #robot #mecha #3d #modelmaking #steampunk #fusion360 #goldfish #model #kit #35scale #submersible #sub
- Not even cut as far as I can tell... just hit the thumbnail hard enough on that edge that it must have separated from the skin underneath. Not as sore now as when I did it 20 minutes ago, but I'm gonna feel it in the morning and the next week for sure! Gonna make sanding hurt so maybe I'll delay it.
- Made a pierogie lasagna for dinner tonight! Bottom is caramelized onions and bacon, then layers of noodles, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, cheddar and smoked gruyere cheese and bacon. Sooo good and 9 more servings to vacuum seal and freeze. Have a meatloaf in the oven now for future meals too.
- Classic meatloaf!
- Forgot about this. Designed a lizard-man 1/6 cyborg action figure in the same style as my Oni a few months ago. Will print one eventually. #cyberpunk #actionfigure #cyborg #3d #3dprinting #modelkit #originaldesign #mecha #fantasy #lizardman #reptile #robot
- Started watching Gravion last night. Figured I should check it out since I've had the God Gravion Moderoid in my stash for a while. I'm only 1 EP in and... it's got a few too many maids? Accidental pilot? Bad translation? Way too many tropes for a first episode. Hopefully it gets better.
- Assuming not many men will find this joke...
- I think it's done and ready for final break-up before I print a couple for myself. #3dprinting #arttoy #robot #mecha #3d #modelmaking #steampunk #fusion360 #goldfish #model #kit #35scale #submersible #sub
- IMO, one of the most important things in sci-fi mechanical design is an "air of plausibility". Yes, the sub/robot/ornithopter/airship will never work IRL, but if it's designed & painted/weathered/worn in a way that makes it look like it could be, that makes a HUGE difference to your subconscious.
- Interior progress on the Black Moor Goldfish Sub. I used to have one of these on my desk at a former workplace 25 years ago. Lived 2 yrs until I brought it home and a cat got it. :-( #3dprinting #arttoy #robot #mecha #3d #modelmaking #steampunk #fusion360 #goldfish #modelkit #submersible #sub #fish
- I could go crazy on the pipes and such behind the seat, but it won't be all that visible in the end so this level of detail should suffice. Only thing missing is some valve handles that are just repeated from the exterior. The holes for them are there so I just need to print out extras.
- The interior progress as of last week. There's nothing but a bit of wall and floor. The current basic seat is FPO. Pipes, valves, gauges, levers, and a new seat design are next. #3dprinting #arttoy #robot #mecha #3d #modelmaking #steampunk #fusion360 #goldfish #modelkit #submersible #sub #fish
- The interior will be pretty visible since I'm using a 40mm plastic xmas spherical ornament half for each eye window. Just have to cut the hanging tab off of each piece. Not sure yet if I'll tint it.
- Bottom flippers are done. Since the fins will be fabric, those holes on the brackets are for stitching heavy thread through to make them more antique-ish steampunk sail-like. #3dprinting #arttoy #robot #mecha #3d #modelmaking #steampunk #fusion360 #goldfish #model #kit #35scale #submersible #sub
- That about wraps up the exterior. Next will be the interior cabin details.
- I think these pins are a dead giveaway for where I live.
- Because of the recent viral video of the first live specimen, I should remind everyone that I released a 3D printable Anglerfish sub model kit a few years ago that is still available in my shop! #anglerfish #steampunk #submarine #3dprinting #3ddesign #fusion360 fichtenfoo.net/blog/product...
