- Langford’s Official Community Plan has been shortlisted for the 2026 CIP Canadian Awards for Planning Excellence! This plan felt pretty special when it was adopted and it’s amazing to see it amongst some inspiring projects. Thank you @brenttoderian.bsky.social for work on this!
- I’ve been struggling to stay focused with the world news this week, particularly today. Finding agency with local matters is helpful. The engagement so far on this story map exercise is encouraging. I love seeing how much people care about their city. Deadline is end of day, Jan 25th (tomorrow).
- Langford is updating our Design Guidelines! The current guidelines were first adopted in 2008, and have only had minor updates since then. It’s now time for a refresh. The new guidelines will help achieve better design for buildings and neighborhoods and align with the new OCP.
- When your family understands what brings you joy 🚏🚌. I hope everyone is having a wonderful winter holiday season ❄️
- @brenttoderian.bsky.social I see you are mentioned in this piece!
- “An isolated bike lane is a toy; a useful network of bike and roll lanes is core infrastructure.” I love this commentary on how empowering it is to have choices in your community. It’s also invigorating to know many communities in the region are contributing to a useful network of transportation ♥️
- A little Langford mention at the 9min mark! We are working on our first Active Transportation Plan that has just gone through its second phase of engagement. Protected bike lanes have become commonplace in the region, including in the Westshore with initial improvements in both Colwood & Langford.

- This was a meaningful event last year and I’ll be there again with my kiddos tomorrow morning. Thanks so much to @capitalbike.ca for organizing this.
- Truth and Reconciliation Day Ride is TOMORROW. Family-friendly, easy-paced ride. Everyone is welcome. Free registration at signup.com/client/in.... A huge thank you to Victoria Police Department, Discovery Coffee, Cox Taylor, and Country Grocer for supporting this important ride. #GBBW #CapitalBike
- Local governments are the closest level of government to communities and we have deep understanding of the impact of policies and investment. UBCM resolutions offer an opportunity for a low-cost and highly effective province-wide gaps analysis. It’s a shame there isn’t more space for debate.
- Our resolution for Free Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy as part of Postpartum Care was supported at UBCM this week! There was even an applause ♥️ Unfortunately a new change with UBCM policy was also supported and resolutions like this will no longer be considered for debate due to local government scope.
- Reposted by Kimberley GuiryElected officials expect public scrutiny as a regular part of the job, but personal attacks, especially on social media, have increased noticeably in recent years. Some local electeds are developing a peer support network focused to help. #UBCM25 youtu.be/TXqfFp3cbqY
- The 2025 UBCM Convention starts next week! After getting support from our local area association last April, Councillor Szpak and I will be bringing this forward for consideration and debate with our provincial colleagues.
- It has been a privilege to work alongside pelvic floor physiotherapists to advocate for more equitable care for postpartum bodies, to bring more awareness to challenges that are coupled with stigma & shame and to work towards impactful outcomes for those suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction.
- There is another week left to complete 2 surveys and give feedback on Langford’s Economic Development Strategy and the Arts and Culture Strategy. There is interesting overlay with these initiatives and it’s great to have this engagement together. Visit letschatlangford.ca for more details.
- 🚴♀️🚴🚴♂️ From Langford to Saanich – the Evolve bike share is rolling across the region! Perfect for catching up with regional colleagues or just catching the sun at the park. Where will your first ride take you? @zacdevries.bsky.social
- As our active transportation options grow, our region starts to feel smaller and more connected. With so many regional trails and destinations to explore in both Langford, Saanich and across the region, the journey is now just as exciting as the destination.
- If you haven’t yet, check out @coachbalto.bsky.social’s amazing bike bus videos. Seeing kids joyfully riding their bike to school as a group is inspiring. Check out this webinar next week with @penalosag.bsky.social and see how a bike bus can happen in your community us06web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...
- Reposted by Kimberley GuiryYou definitely won't see people inspired to do art work in the middle of a street like this. Active Transportation ~ Safe for bikes, Safe for artists 😍
- This was a delightful surprise on the bike ride home today. Spotted on the E&N trail just up from the Langford/Colwood border.
- This is a great discussion on how powerful it can be to support and lift alternative modes of transportation. Addressing barriers (physical and social), providing options (through share programs) and investing in safe and protected infrastructure has supported an evolution of cycling in London.
- Reposted by Kimberley GuiryHey local electeds! Join us on Sept 10 from 12pm - 1pm for a conversation with local electeds and non-profit leaders on key social advocacy resolutions at UBCM 2025. More details in comments. us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...
- “Over the past three years, more than $15 million from various funds has been committed to sidewalk infill projects, protected multi-use paths, protected bike lanes, traffic calming, and intersection safety improvements.”
- We have had some misinformation floating around about Langford’s priorities on safe routes to school and our readiness for the opening of SĆIȺNEW̱ SṮEȽIṮḴEȽ Elementary. Not only are the sidewalks ready to go, the walking trip is a huge improvement from last year. 🧵1 of 3
- The phase 1 section of Latoria is currently only open to local traffic & buses and should be open to all traffic in about a month. Improvements also include protected bike lanes that will continue for the whole stretch of Latoria. Phase 1 is almost complete and phase 2&3 are in the works! 🧵2 of 3
- Until later phases of the project are completed, Langford has established multi-use paths as an interim measure. I went for a walk on Latoria the first day of school and it was fantastic to see so many families walking to school! 🧵3 of 3
- This was a fantastic and fun way to end the summer and I believe it was the first mass ride in Langford. People of all ages were bopping, grooving and feeling the beat from the awesome DJs, all while riding through the streets of Langford.
- Today is International Overdose Awareness Day and my heart goes out to all those feeling loss. While my personal experience is from that of a tradesperson, I know this touches many people. I hope there is a day soon where overdose no longer permeates our communities.
- Langford Bike Rave is this Saturday!
- I’m grateful to have the support of Langford Council to match the $5K donation to the Forge and collaborate on a joint media statement with the WSDA. Tradespeople are not only building our communities but are also our neighbours and family members. The Forge is creating community support.
- The Forge is daylighting a crisis in construction with the highest suicide rate of all Canadian industries, 83% of workers experiencing mental health struggles & substance abuse rates double the national average. The culture of “toughing it out” can change with peer support. Donate if you can,
- Yesterday we got a sneak peek at the 1st building on the new John Horgan Campus opening in just a few weeks. It is an exciting evolution to Langford City Centre and will be transformative for the community. The learning spaces are beautiful and I can’t wait to see students and staff here soon!
- Couple things flagged right away, 1. We now have a Federal BCH (Build Canada Homes) and a Provincial BCH (BC Housing) 2. Cutting DCCs in half should make everyone nervous as these charges are already reviewed by multiple levels of government. They are not frivolous & take affordability into account
- Reposted by Kimberley GuiryI’m not against cars. I own one. But we need to make it much, much easier, pleasant, and safer to walk, bike, or take transit than it is to drive somewhere by myself in an empty car. And there’s no way to do that without making some drivers angry. Thankfully, more and more drivers understand.
- Something really fun is coming to Langford before the end of the summer and I can’t wait to share more about it!
- Langford is creating an exciting new Arts and Culture Strategy. As part of public engagement, a Kudoboard has been created to capture great initiatives that people want to see in Langford. There have been some great contributions including placemaking, festivals, community hubs & more. Check it out!
- West Shore Parks and Recreation offers a 1/2 day skateboard summer camp just for girls and it is a super inclusive and positive space for all skill levels. Programs like these can open doors into communities, have life changing impacts and are just a whole lot of fun.
- "The evidence shows that restoring lanes for cars will not result in less congestion, as it will induce more people to use cars and therefore any reduction in driving time will be short-lived, if at all, and will lead to more congestion," said Schabas in his decision.
- The City of Langford was proud to support the Esquimalt and Songhees stop of the Tribal Journeys, Paddle to Elwha. Yesterday, Indigenous canoe families from across the west coast were welcomed on the shared traditional territories of the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. 1/2
- The annual journey is a powerful expression of cultural resilience, connection, & resurgence. The canoe families stayed overnight at Fort Rodd Hill before paddling on to Beecher Bay this morning, and will later paddle across to Elwha in Washington for 5 days of protocol and cultural celebration. 2/2
- BCAA's Evo Car Share has officially rolled into Langford! Find six dedicated Evo parking spots along Station Avenue, plus additional parking available on a portion of Atkins Road. The expansion connects Langford with Evo's Victoria-area Home Zone. More details at, www.bcaa.com/automotive/e...
- Veterans Memorial Park is expanding, and we want to hear from you! To address the growing need for greenspace in the downtown core, the City of Langford acquired 1.35 acres of adjacent land in 2022 to expand Veterans Memorial Park. Survey closes end of day, August 17th.
- “Women and gender-diverse people who are experiencing complex menopause symptoms can now access specialized care at BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre’s new Complex Menopause Clinic, a first of its kind in Western Canada.” It’s great to see our healthcare system moving towards equity.
