- Second audiobook dnf of the year & this one is for an author who I usually enjoy reading. Seanan McGuire’s Middlegame. I may give it another go sometime in the future, but perhaps I’ll try the print version. 📚🦋 🎧🦋
- Started listening to the audiobook of Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower. I’ve read it before, but listening to it in 2026 there is an unsettling eerie/uncanny recognition. #ParableOfTheSower 📚🦋 🎧🦋

- Interesting that Algoma Steel in Ontario got $500 million dollars in loans from federal & provincial governments in September 2025 & are now laying off 1,000 people as of March 2026. It was mean to “protect Canadian steel jobs” — so, where is all that money going? 🤔
- Another day, another (lack of) caffeine headache brought on by waiting to drink coffee until later in the morning and limiting myself to 1 cup. I have had a cup of herbal tea and a mug of hot water with a lemon slice. But my brain stubbornly wants its caffeine dose. 😢🤕
- First DNF of the year. 👎📖 I don’t often dnf, but sometimes you just know right away. 📚🦋
- Planted some herb seeds indoors to start my 2026 growing season: sage, rosemary, oregano, thyme, spearmint, 3 varieties of basil, and catnip. 🌱🪴 🤞they grow — they’re from old seeds, not from my recent order. #GardenDreaming #2026SeedStarting #WinterFatigue
- I’ve jumped on this trend of drinking hot water instead of cold water — I love it. I used to do it all the time when I was intermittent fasting. But I do find I’m drinking less coffee (which is 💯 fine) but the reduced caffeine is leaving me feeling a bit draggy this week. I’m sure I’ll adjust.
- I started brewing a fresh cinnamon & ginger tea, with cardamom pods & whole cloves a few months ago & now I can’t live w/out it. Spicy and warming! I brew a big pot every week, strain it into a half gallon mason jar with a pour handle & we just reheat it throughout the week when we want a cup. ☕️😋
- When my son left for uni 3.5 years ago he hid a yodelling pickle in my desk as a joke. It was several months before I noticed it. 😂 Today, I hid it in his packed bags as he is leaving from winter break to head back to uni for the new term. 🤞he doesn’t notice it before he gets home & unpacks.
- This is the yodelling pickle in question.
- Back to work tomorrow. Fun fun fun. 🫠
- 🎄is away for another year. It’s fun to put up, but I always breathe a huge sigh of relief after putting away the Xmas clutter.
- Submitted my seed order 🌱👩🌾🪴 I realized also that I have herb seeds left from last years order — I think I might start those under some grow lights in the kitchen. 🌿
- Sage, rosemary, thyme, basil, spearmint, and oregano.
- I’m about 33% of the way through reading my 2nd book of the day. 1st book was just some light-hearted fare. 2nd book is ‘Truth Telling’ by Michelle Good — this is my selection for prompt 2 of @thestorygraph.com Genre Challenge for 2026 — A Non-fiction Book About Indigenous History. 📚🦋 🎧🦋
- Welcome 2026.

- Shingles vaccine dose 1 acquired. ☑️ 🤞I don’t get a sore arm like with the flu & covid shots. 💉👩⚕️
- Arm is slightly sore. Slight fever & chills. Mainly it’s the fatigue that is getting me today. Have had 2 naps so far.
- Has anyone else woken up to >100 new followers? Have I been added to a starter pack or something? 🧐 Anyways, welcome. 👋 I mainly post about books, reading, and cats these days. I sew quilts and am learning to knit. Sometimes I complain about the weather—I am Canadian after all. 🤷♀️
- I was dubious about how much I’d enjoy Tomorrow & Tomorrow & Tomorrow, but I think it might actually be a 5⭐️ read for me. I’m just 20 mins out from finishing the audiobook and am sad it’s almost done. 📚🦋 🎧🦋
- Shhh! 🤫 my giant Maine Coon grandbaby is having a snooze. #Catsky 😸🦋
- I’ll be closing out 2025 by reading: - Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin - The Bad Seeds by C. J. Skuse - Queen Macbeth by Val McDermid 🦋📚
- Guess I’d better start selecting my books for the 10 fresh categories of @thestorygraph.com 2026 Genre challenge. What’s everyone planning to read?
- I’m planning to read the new biography about Octavia Butler — Positive Obsession (2025) for prompt #6.
- I’m thinking that ‘Mornings Without Mii’ might be my translated (modern) classic for prompt #4.
- Finished! ✅ I completed @thestorygraph.com Genre Challenge for 2025 by reading at least 1 book in 10 different categories. 📚🦋
- Why must skincare companies mess with a good thing when they’ve got a kickass product? Avene changed the formulation of their Hydrance moisturizer — imo the new fragrance is unpleasant & the cream is greasy & doesn’t moisturize. 😣 I do like the new glass container though.
- I haven’t done much quilting in 2025 because of my damned frozen shoulder making it hard to use a rotary cutter, but I think I’m gonna start to work on this one in 2026. Perhaps I should start small for learning foundation paper piecing quilting, but I’m gonna jump right in. Wish me luck.
- Skullcandy headphone users — question for you: Is there a way to turn off the voice greeting when powering up and powering down the headphones? It is unnecessary, loud, & kind of grating. Otherwise I love my headphones—they’re comfy & the sound quality is great. #Skullcandy #AudiobookReaders 🎧🦋
- I made it to 150 books read for 2025! I have 3 on the go, so may get another couple books in before the end of the year. 📚🦋 🎧🦋
- I love watching the Downy Woodpecker scattering the Chickadees, Wrens, & Purple Finches when he arrives at the suet feeder at my front window. Morning tea time & bird watching. 🫖 ☕️
- My son got me a set of custom-made stitch markers for knitting from AliceRCrafts — so pretty! 🧶🦋
- Loving my Xmas headphones. The sound is 👩🍳💋 SkullCandy Aviator 900 ANC — Perfect for audiobooks 🎧📚
- Is it weird that I can listen to an audiobook (fiction) while reading a different book (nonfiction) in print? 🤓🧐🎧📖 📚🦋 🎧🦋
- I got my William Dam 2026 seed catalogue 🌱 yesterday & I swear I squealed in anticipation of going through it—It’s like when we were kids in the 80s & the Sears’ holiday catalogue came in the mail.
- 4 books left to meet my 2025 📚goal, so I’m treating myself by starting an audiobook that’s 24 hours long. 😀 The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson. 📚🦋 🎧🦋
- I just ate a couple cloves of the fermented honey garlic 🧄🍯 I made recently, and now I fear I’ll be breathing fire for the next couple of days. 🐉🔥
- These were very spicy garlic cloves. Whew. 🥵
