- if you can't make money at sports, why are you running a newspaper
- like the only thing people do still actually read
- do we have any data on whether abolishing away goals has made knockout games more defensive, as some predicted?
- yes, this is what happens when you're top of the league. teams sit back against you. other sides in the same position have played more exciting stuff. but you don't need to care about that.
- you know what, ronaldinho was actually good at the 2006 world cup. he didn't *want* to be so deep, but he was good at pulling the strings in that role, anyway.
- wait, is this what's happening here. after years of having to tell themselves that doing things the right way was a prize in itself, are some people struggling to reconcile the fact that winning the "wrong" way is more enjoyable.
- guys, you're arsenal fans. you spent years eating shit when your team of nice boys playing football the right way couldn't win anything. rival fans now think of this team the way you thought of mourinho's chelsea. you should be loving every minute of it.
- it does not spark joy
- can i just disappear into writing about old games until they make set pieces illegal or something
- sounds great. football where the quality of attackers doesn't matter. exactly what we all want to see. bsky.app/profile/kimi...
- kids dreaming of being in the meat wall when they grow up
- Putting Gilberto da Silva Melo and Gilberto Aparecido da Silva in the same lineup should not be allowed.
- writing about brazil at the 2006 world cup, i could get accused of elder abuse for the way i'm going on about 36 year old cafu.
- the narrative at the time was all about ronaldo looking way past it, and i think that's overblown tbh. he was still useful even if a lot more static. cafu on the other hand, not so much lol. they left dani alves (23) and maicon (24) at home for this.
- australia using harry kewell as a second half substitute to basically just run at cafu
- it is not my favourite part of the job having to write about the point in each game when brazil bring on a former manchester city attacker.
- well there just weren't any red flags with this political operator known as the "prince of darkness".
