- Reposted by Lena Hahn🧵 New paper alert! People enjoy eating meat but often feel uneasy when being reminded that it comes from animals. To understand how people avoid this conflict, our new study explores how food preparation helps people mentally separate meat from its animal origins. Here’s what we found 👇 1/9

But does this really work? 🤔 In this short piece for Current Opinion in Psych, I review the recent literature... 👇 1/3 doi.org/10.1016/j.co...

- Reposted by Lena HahnExcited to announce that my paper with @lpummerer.bsky.social, @sonja-utz.de & @kaisassenberg.bsky.social on conspiracy beliefs is published. We examined the relationship between conspiracy beliefs and procedural justice during the peak and decay of the pandemic.
- How complete are preregistrations? Short answer: 53% include all 6 procedural specifications Medium answer: 🧵 Long answer: check out my publication with A. Glöckner @mariogollwitzer.bsky.social J. Hellmann, J. Lange, S. Schindler & @kaisassenberg.bsky.social doi.org/10.1177/2515...
- We used @zpid.bsky.social PSYNDEX database to sample preregistrations from articles published by psychologists from institutions in German-speaking countries in 2020. We coded 6 procedural specifications (e.g., planned sample size) & 6 transparency elements (e.g., sample size justification)
- 53% of preregistrations included all procedural specifications & 10% all transparency elements. The completeness of preregistration was unrelated to JIF and TOP Factor of the journal in which the preregistered study was published. We discuss how the completeness of preregistrations can be improved.

- Do you perceive meat differently depending on the degree of preparation? Short answer: yes (multilevel modeling), but no distinct underlying mechanisms (network analysis) Medium answer: 🧵 Long answer: check out our new preprint 😊 Project with @benjaminbuttlar.bsky.social & M. Chambon
- A Matter of Preparation: Investigating the Differential Effects of Processing and Cooking on Meat-Related Perceptions and Conflict: doi.org/10.31234/osf.io/ahy…
- Multilevel results show that both processing and cooking reduced empathy. Processing reduced arousal, while cooking reduced felt ambivalence, anger, & disgust. The absence of interaction effects suggests these steps may influence meat perception via distinct mechanisms.
- We used network analysis and network comparison tests to explore the underlying mechanisms. However, the results did not indicate different structures of meat-related perception networks between food preparation steps.
