- Anyone in Ireland please write your td today and make a fuss. This is terrible. It's just step after step into an EU Army and Nato. www.thejournal.ie/triple-lock-...
- This user blocks the author of the focused post. The triple lock is a disgrace. Effectively we allow Russia, China, the US, the UK and France a veto over the use of Irish troops. So anything going against the interest of those countries can be vetoed. And we're supposed to be ok with that?
- Abolishing the triple lock does the exact opposite of that- it would instead allow the UN or the EU to deploy Irish troops. The veto is there mutually where WE can legally say no. The only reason government want it abolished is they want military companies to wine and dine them for contracts.Feb 4, 2026 21:07
- The whole point of the triple lock is to stop bigger powers from using Irish troops as canon fodder. Abolishing it only means either the Taoiseach can decide we're deploying troops without Dail/EU/UN approval... or the EU/UN can order the Taoiseach to deploy troops and he can't say no.
- Its being rammed through so you know its bad and unpopular. No Citizen's Initiative hearing. No referendum. No public input. All queries for it were staffed with people who want it gone- who stand to gain finanically either directly or being in charge of a defense department with a bigger budget.
