This debate or discourse or discussion about why Bezos is dismantling WaPo or whether or not more subscriptions or boycotts could change things or how he could fund it easily is pointless. It’s moot.
Bezos bought the Post to control the narrative and push his agenda. Financials don’t matter.
There’s truly no point in any of this conversation. It’s not a mystery. He’s getting rid of people he finds ancillary and who he doesn’t need to control the messaging. Because controlling the messaging is the only reason he owns the thing.
It’s just the propaganda arm of his business.
There’s no discourse warranted here! It’s all extremely transparent and obvious.
Almost every take I’ve seen on this is just wrong. People are approaching this like it’s a traditional media outlet “looking for a new audience” y’all he does not care. He just wants to write some clickbait headlines that match his agenda that you’re gonna pass around and spread his propaganda.
Like people in actual media aren’t getting this??? I genuinely think folks are simply in denial. Because this is an absolutely absurd take.
bsky.app/profile/watt...Bezos’ WaPo is just Musk’s Twitter. There absolutely no other way to look at this and any other version of this discussion is a waste of time.
bsky.app/profile/gnor...“But his audience is dwindling!”
So what? Y’all only read headlines anyway. He doesn’t actually need you to bother clicking on the articles.
People saying they think he had good intentions at first. He’s been doing layoffs since day 1.
He bought it under a different social climate where real journalism still existed and he had to pretend to care and enact his agenda quietly.
All that’s changed is he doesn’t have to pretend anymore.
He had good intentions from Day 1 to about the same extent Musk did in acquiring Twitter. Which is to say not at all, and I'm stunned there are people who think otherwise.
