Writing what is likely quite a bad poem about Julian of Norwich.
Is it possible to write a good poem about Julian of Norwich?
Annoying myself a lot because most people - rather than taking her seriously as a theologian - mainly focus on the smooshy stuff, and yet here I am! Focusing on the smooshy stuff!
Better than girlbossing the shit out of her, mind.
(Yes, she had to navigate carefully the highly sexist society she inhabited, no, she was was not “sticking it to the man” nor the first person to figure a “God as mother.” She was part of the broader orthodoxy of her period.)
SHE HAD A HIGHLY INCISIVE MIND AND WROTE AN IMPORTANT THEOLOGICAL WORK. A lot of the smooshy stuff was *part* of her navigating the patriarchy through the expected gender roles of her time, not some “uniquely female perspective on Godhead.”
(Everyone please stop being tedious and predictable about JofN, myself included, thanks.)
